Finally got around to adding a choke to my modded Peavey Windsor this weekend. I used the Hammond JCM800 replacement choke. I must say, I like it a lot. The cleans are much prettier, the bass stays tight without mushing out when the amp is overdriven, and it now has better sustain and harmonic feedback bloom . Altogether, the harmonics sound better and are easier to coax out of the amp.
I also subbed the Peavey output xformer with the Hammond 100W JCM800 replacement OT. There's not a dramatic...
Has anyone had a chance to see the insides of one? I'm blown away by all of their amps and I think a lot of has to do with the iron he chooses. But being a Marshal fan this one really floored me. If seen the insides of enough of their amps to realize it's nothing really magical but this had a clarity and grind in it that I've yet to hear in others.
Hey all, I recently found a veroboard layout for the Beavis Audio Tube Cricket Amp
(which if someone would verify would be greatly appreciated aswell linked here & Schematic here,
and before i went about building it i wondered if anyone had any experience with it, theres no samples about anywhere for it and i wondered what sorta sound it gives (i'l probably make it even if it was terrible just cause its such a cool little amp)
i have a peavey valveking 112 which id like to improve before messing with my bassman. any ideas on improving the lead channel? also how do i make the lead channel's volume control a master volume?
Anyone know of, or can recommend, a good place to get a re-cone done on a (not vintage) Celestion AlNiCo Blue? Got the dreaded buzz out of it today.....
I know Weber does recones, but I read a post from someone who had them recone a Blue, and they said it sounded different when they got it back - of course, you can't believe everything you read.....
I'd sure hate to shell out another $300 for a new one.
So I'm wondering what the actual values are of the parts inside this kit, because there's no way it would cost anywhere near $50 for the bits n pieces. So if anyone's done the kit or just knows this kinda stuff, it would be awesome to supply me with such info.
Hi they guys, I'm having some idiotic trouble here,
I've been asked to fix up a crappy sounding 1996 Fender Hot Rod Deville for a friend. The symptom is that when turned-on the guitar sound is fuzzy sounding. It's not crackly but rather just kind of dirty sounding. I've got through and visually check for anything burnt out, changed out the tubes for new ones (two were obviously burnt out). Poked and prodded around with a wooden dowel to make sure there's no broken or loose joints. Also, the...
Hey all,
So I've got a V2 valve junior combo waiting for some love. I'm resonably handy with a soldering iron, not so handy with tracing / diagnosing. I've been digging around at SEwatt for a while, and looks like I'll have some time to get started...
I came across the wampler book on diy mods, most of it looks like it's from the SEwatt place. Here's the rundown:
I had bad luck recently on my mission to build an overdrive capable of driving a speaker too:
For this kind of thing I think I will go back to lm386 (any alternative someone?).
Anyway I built this: it is so simple and stripped down it makes you laugh... but it works great and gives a good clean sound too; no distortion was available on this IC, but the volume is very good, maybe louder than lm386.
It is now my new practice amp, I built it inside a carboard box with four small speakers (two...
I recently picked up a MIC Ibanez artcore semi-hollowbody like the one pictured here:
My problem is that the tone pots seem to be adding some hum/fuzz to the tone. Like, plugged straight into my VOX AC15 when I'm picking away on a clean sound there is still a little low-grade fuzzy non-tonal breakup. If I turn the tone pot all the way to zero that fuzziness goes away but of course the tone sounds like it's inside a bucket. So I tested it with another guitar and the fuzz is still...
hi all, ive been using a laney TF700-II amp, i got it second hand but it didnt come with a footswitch
i notice the footswitch connector on the back of the amp is a 9-pin socket
all i want to do, is be able to switch between the clean channel and the 'drive2' channel (i dont cate about LED's, or turning reverb on/off etc)
im hoping i can just hook up a basic single regular latching stompbox footswitch.. thing is, i suck at figuring this sort of thing out (but am good at soldering once i know...
can someone explain to me the different tone from phase inverters...i know the principles on how each works...but what's the difference tonally between long tail, cathodyne, direct coupled, paraphase, concertina...etc?? EG do you find the PI from the princeton dirtier than a deluxe...etc.etc.
Just picked up one of these little puppies this weekend. I spent an hour or so bypassing the fixed tone stack and basically brought it back to 5E1/5F1 specs (no tube recto, obviously). Then I had to dig through a bunch of 6V6s and 12A*7s to find a combo I liked. Ended up settling on a NOS Phillips 6V6 and a NOS RFT 12AX7. Since the replacement speakers (Jensen MOD 6 or a Weber Alnico 6) are so cheap, I'll probably try both, but the stock speaker doesn't bother me all that much.
Bottom line:...
Just got one of these, as I always enjoyed the tones it could produce. One thing I've noticed is the switching is a little weird. When switching from the overdrive channel to the clean channel, there is a bit of a volume drop, and there is still some saturation present, but after a second or so, the volume raises up to normal, and the saturation is gone. Anybody know if this is normal? Switching from clean to overdrive is a little noisy, but I think that is typical of Marshall switching.
Does anyone have the schem for either of these foot controllers? I'm working on building custom versions for a friend in a national act, but they are on tour and I don't have the original to RE. Anyone?
Just finished this project, and thought I'd share some pics. Schematic to follow, as soon as I scan it in at work next week. Built from leftover bamboo flooring from my kitchen reno, chassis is an old network switching dealie, faceplate is chrome plated stainless steel, and has weber transformers and a hammond choke. Sounds great with el34's.
I've been thinking bout a new amp lately, and thinking why not try building one. I'm not sure if i'm ready for sourcing out all the parts myself, so I was looking into kits and came across the Weber site. Does anyone have any experience with their kits? I'd be doing a clone design (most likely a bassman, or maybe a JMP).
This was given to me by a king man :)
It contains route 66 schem+layout
Also, Carmen ghia schematic in 2 variations(but almost Identical), includes a layout, a BOM with suppliers and total money.
And some pictures.
This link will hold for 7 days, if someone wants to host it it would be good.
This old beauty come to me as a gift, but I found almost nothing in the net about. All people how has one only have nice words to define, but, sadly, nothing about the best way to get the juice.
All Mullard tubes (4 ECC83, 2 EL34) glowing from the sixtie's!
My Q's are: how to deal with the impedance controls downside?
I'm planning to use it as practice bass amp in a domestic level, so: wich input will be the best? Pickup will be fine?
Latest and greatest version of my Peavey Windsor with the PI modified. Thought these were a good representation of how the amp sounds. Didn't intend to post them at first so there is some stumbling as I was just experimenting with a couple mics playing around with recording. Just messing around with Down Brownie , one of my favorite early ZZ Top tunes.
that is my question.
I'm putting together a two-channel amplifier, and the dirty channel I want to use a dr boogey (of gaussmarkov).
Do I have to make some modification to it?
