I'm a bit of a noob, and I just finished building my first two boxes--An original OC44 rangemaster clone, and a tricked out AC128 fuzz face. Since both use PNP transistors, they're wired for positive ground .
Both work great on battery power, but I read that PNP boxes wouldn't work with standard polarity power supplies.
If i attach these boxes to a standard voodoo power supply, am I going to fry them? I have the power jack wired so that the positive terminal runs to ground, negative to the...
Hi. I know on a BJT you can tell the ballpark output by looking at the hfe on the datasheet. Since FET's dont have hfe, what do I need to look for on a datasheet? Thanks guys.
I pretty much got all my parts to built a '68 fuzz with BC108C's
The sound I'm looking for can be heard on these clips:
The first one is an actual ( very successful) rebuilt of Jimi's red fuzz face:
This is an original BC108C fuzz from 68:
(don't mind the wah, the fuzz can be heard just fine^^)
So what do you guys think about these fuzzez? And especcially the hfe's
I asked for this before but forgot to save the file, but can someone please post the wiring diagram for a PNP positive ground fuzz? The last time I asked somebody posted the diagram from GGG and I went back to look for it there and couldnt find it. So if you would be so kind...
I promise to save it on my computer this time!
Also Im building the Tonepad MKII Fuzz so maybe someone has a wiring diagram for that too.
THANKS
I haven't the posted here before, but these forums have been a great resource for me. I wanted to share some info on these transistors since I didn't see any mention of them when I did a search.
I bought 50 MP38A transistors and tested them for gain and leakage. These NOS Russian transistors manufactured in the 80's. They were in a plastic bag that had never been opened. Here are the results:
According to the specs the Hfe range is 45-100. The vast majority of them are in the 50's and 60's....
Hi, this is my first post. I've only built one pedal so far, so I'm still new to this.
I was on my way to my physics class today and one of the professors was getting rid of a bunch of germanium transistors. He said they've never been used, and he's not sure if they work, but they're still in sealed packages. He just gave them to me. I've got 18 of them.
My question is what exactly they would be good for, if anything. They're NPN General Electric GE8's. Does anyone know anything about these?
I made a preamp using the Tillman design and I used a 2SK117 instead of the J201. But I am getting distortion. So I am assuming the biasing resistors need to be changed. anybody know the suitable values for R2 & R3 for the 2SK117? or maybe the 2SK117 spec is way off :hmmm:
I've got a bag of these and was curious what a silicon xtr would sound in a Sola MkII circuit. Is there any bias difs I would need to address or could do a direct swap????
I'm doing small research about Dynacomp replica build and I came across informations that 2SC1849 transistors have different pinout depend on manufacture. It looks like Asian brand 2SC1849's have ECB arrangement and US ones uses EBC pinout. Does anybody can confirm this?
I know a lot about matching germanium transistors thanks to posts over FSB and great R.G's article, but is there any rule of matching SILICON ones? What hfe range is right for maximum performance of silicon FuzzFace, and Tone Benders?
I've stumbled onto a rather large cache of 51 different types of germanium transistors from the 2N family. The list below is just a small sample. I'm seeking information from those who have had good or bad experiences with these types in FF circuits.
This might be a noob question.
I am unfamiliar with JFET and its operation. But small signal model looks very similar.
Is there any reason why stompbox designers are using JFET instead of readily available MOSFET?
im just trying to get my head around the NPN vs PNP transistors.
i understand that the ground is diffrent for both and also diffrent transistors...but is its possible to build a fuzz circuit that is switchable between both?
I recently (Aug) got some 2SC536 transistors from Futurelec to try in the Super-Fuzz layout of ShortScaleMike's :thumbsup
Finally getting around to using them and deciding that i like them, i can't seem to find out any info whatsoever about them. The problem is that i don't bleive these to be 2SC536 as the others i have had are marked differently (C536...)
The markings read, as you can sort of see, 536 * FOK. They are in a tiny case about half...
While scavenging for P-JFET's i came across these components. I believe they are FET's as they were in the switching part of a hi-fi system and they look like 2SK772's. The number reads J460 K96M. Cannot seem to find any info on google. Does anyone know what are these?
but I don't have the recomended transistors which are 2N5088's. If I use different ones (I've got AC128s, BC108s, 2N3904s, & 2N3906s) do I have to alter the resistor values for each transister?
I tried breadboarding it from the schematic ( using 2n3904s and I'm finding that q3 is getting extremely hot, and I'm not getting any signal past the first transistor? I've tripple checked everything and it all seems in order, but I am still a newbie and probably...
