Ok, you got your soldering iron and nothing is going to hold you back, but you have no clue where to start or what to build. There were others before you with the same questions... read them first.

im not sure on how to use Vero Board, its my 1st experiance building anything electrical (soldered a couple of time when changing pickups but thats it) is there a good website that has a step by step guild to it even better if its for building a SHO clone.
my main questions are what is the underneath of it meant to look like?
what does everyone mean when they say they are tracking on the vero board?
also if i got a large peice of vero board could i cut it up to fit or do i have to get the...
Hi.
I want to build any easy modern real tube distortion (as vox bulldog...), or any floor higain preamp..but can not find any schematic. Can you advise? Give me schematic? :applause:
Okay, i've built a few simple ones that work nicely (One Knob Fuzz, Green Ringer etc).
Planning on a Red Llama and a runoffgroove Peppermill as a boost for my setup
just wanted to see if you guys (who no doubt have loooooads more experience than my worthless tush) could offer any generic help to people who are just getting started with building pedals.
See how many good quality posts we can get - if we get a lot, il try collate a list and make an all out guide in your honour!
If I'm building something not to be used under my foot I prefer to get my box free if I can. In the USA they seem to use Altoids tins, but you can't get those here in the UK, so instead I found some German sweets in a tin for about a Euro in the shop BM. See my picture. I sing as well so I use the sweets to keep my mouth wet while all the singing is blowing it dry, then I get the tin for projects. Thing is, How do I make the necessary holes in this? It doesn't look very drill friendly to me, do...
I'm trying to design a DIY tube distortion pedal for a guitar. I haven't read anything specifically about guitar amps and effects, only Morgan Jones' book about Hi-Fi amps. In this book, a principle seems to be that you should keep input impedance as high as possible, while keeping output impedance as low as possible. However many guitar techs say soundcards, amps etc. should have an input impedance of about 1M for guitars, I have also seen preamps with a specified impedance of 2.2M. Does...
Hey all,
Just a quick question on using alternative values for things. We've all had those builds where we need to use substitute values. I've done ones where the substitutes have been really close. Things like 12k resistors replaced with 15k resistors, or 20nF caps replaced with 22nF caps. As i'm sure a lot of you will agree, a lot of the time, if the values are close enough, it won't really make much of a difference a lot of the time.
My question is, what if almost the entire board were...
I was in an electronics store yesterday getting components. When I asked for my list of components, the woman helping me kept asking what wattage I want it in... and I realized I have no idea. How do I determine the wattages that the components should be?
I appreciate any answers that could clear this up.
Just when I start to think everything is becoming clear, I hit something I don't understand.
Has anyone ever made a pedal out of old electronics? I've got an old radio and a CRT monitor with a cracked screen. I know monitors have quite a few resistors, caps, diode, ic's, tranys, I have no idea what type of quality these are but it's going to the dump at the moment. It might be more trouble than it's worth but I don't know.
hey everyone, i am new to this site but am very interested in building this pedal. i understand that the layout is for a perfboard, but i dont understand how you know what to soder on the back, can someone please shed some light for me. thanks in advance for the help
Hello friends!!!
If I want to make my distortion pedals(my own schematic and design) what do i have to protect (by copyright or similar),what to register to legaly start the bussines?
I am from Croatia(Europe) but I think the laws are international.
If anybody knows something please let me know!!
Thanks to in advance!
I've got a few pedal project on the way, but when I go shopping the components, I always have some problems. I want to know parts that would work instead of others.
I'm the only one here having a lot of troubles when desoldering on the dunlop pcbs? the tracks always came off with the heat of the solder..I got this problem only when modding dunlop wahs..now I'm at the point that I want to do a lot of mods but the risk is too much...
I built a BOR on vero and wasn't too pleased. I'm looking for a nice low to medium gain vero layout to build, any suggestions? Landgraff, Zendrive, any other circuits.
I'm not schematic savvy so vero or perf would be ideal. Thank you.
apologies if this is the wrong area to ask this - seemed the right one to me, so mods please move it to the right place if I got it wrong.
I'm having a go (my first go, I might add - complete n00b) at making a pcb for the ibanez flying pan fp-777 phaser and I sourced the original schems.
I'm trying to translate it into Eagle (again, my first attempt - it's pretty confusing  ) but I'm having trouble identifying this pair of components.
looks like we've a 100K resistor on the right, but...
This is slightly off topic, but what have your experiences been with lead free solder.
I have just started building and can't seem to get it to work. I am using a 25 watt iron and I can't seem to tin the tip. It just beads up and falls off. I have started using tip tinner and cleaner and it works for a bit but after a relatively short time the tip is blackened and unusable. I have watched numerous tutorials on soldering on youtube and I just can't get my iron to behave the same way.
Hi, first off I should state that I'm a total noob when it comes to building pedals. After checking out the DIY kits at BYOC, I figure it'd be a lot cheaper to just buy their PCBs and the rest of the parts from a component retailer. I've decided I want to try and build a DOD 440 clone as my first build, but after reading the parts list provided with their instructions, there's a few points that I'm not sure about.
Firstly, which type of resistors should I use? I have no idea which power...
I want to add a dc jack and I wondering how to do this so that when the jack is used, the battery is bypassed......
Im sorry if this is really noob stuff, I have never done it!
thanks
I've got a lot of parts with long leads that take up a lot of room in their little compartments. Take for instance, axial caps. Do you kinda fold the leads back onto the cap so it doesn't sprawl all over or what? I'm sick to death of the giant bags full of mixed parts and I'm trying to get order in my shop of horrors. Here's what I'd like to shave------------------
