Ok, you got your soldering iron and nothing is going to hold you back, but you have no clue where to start or what to build. There were others before you with the same questions... read them first.

OK, so I'm brand new to the DIY electronics stuff. I have almost no background besides what I've read on this forum in the past few weeks, but I decided to give my own build a try. Right now, I'm stuck in the breadboard stage just trying to get a simple circuit to pass audio, much less produce a desirable effect. RIght now, I have the Bazz Fuss circuit (the version without a potentiometer!) sitting on my desktop on a breadboard. The circuit is 100% correct, but all I'm getting is a loud hum,...
First time breadboarding a project, and was wondering where you guys start. I would think at the input, but was just looking to get some ideas. I'm just going to hook a 9v battery up for testing.
Thanks, and this is a great site, and I think this is my first post.
I just finish Ampotor from TONEPAD, i'm testing it sound's great very good clean sound, and when i connect to the DC jack it works fine, true-bypass works fine also, the problem when i use 9v batery it doesn´t work.. I also use tonepad offboard wiring nº 5..
Just wondering what the experts here are using for a lead free soldering station? We are looking to buy a few more at work. We currently use the Hakko 936 stations and they are OK for the money but I was wondering if there is something better? Here is the link to the 936:
I just got my hands on a soldering iron and I found myself stuck. I had nothing to solder, only parts to unsolder from old broken stuff. And I have not found any desoldering braid/wick so I just went to town anyway. I just heated up the solder and pulled the parts out. The parts seam fine to my novice eyes and I don't really need to use the board again so I don't really care about left over solder on it. I was just wondering if their are any dangers to the parts by desoldering this way....
I'm interested in picking up a breadboard off ebay (preferably with free shipping). Anyone have any recommendations for some boards that are up for auction right now?
I'm looking at something like this one or this one. I've never bought one so I thought I'd throw it out there. Thanks guys!
Ok, im trying to figure out the meaning of those half circle, hump looking lines in amp diagrams. arent those transistors? how do you tell which wire goes were?
basically i need a little help reading schematics. also what do those circles with the three lines (that look like sideways Pi) in them mean.
I'm new to the DIY and I am extremely excited to be able to play around with my pedals. Ever since seeing some of the circuits involved in these pedals, I have to say that I am quite intrigued! :D ! However; I have come across some problems with the current target of my project: The crybaby wah classic (GCB-95F). Here us some gut shots of my pedal:
As can be noted my crybaby wah is completely built with SMD components. Being that I have no experience with working with...
hi, i figured all of you would be able to help me with my questions. I've built 4 byoc pedals and I've really enjoyed doing it, but I've been wanting to learn how to understand the schematics and how to lay out my own circuit board, basically i want to learn how to build a pedal completely by myself. can anyone give me some help or directions on how to read and layout schematics. id like to start with a pretty simple schematic, I'm not sure what kind of circuit it would be, but id like some...
Hello. I am new to stompbox building and can't wait to finish my first pedal. I have been reading as much as I can and am pretty sure I could build a from schematic with the component values already there. My only problem is about power supply... Is the way I've been reading about powering (by dividing the 9v and with the + at the schematic top and the - at the bottom/ground), is this a standard method - because sometimes it seems left out of some schematics? Do some stompboxes have other...
Had my first ever boards fabbed, wasn't expecting them to be perfect but one mistake I did make was to make the pads too small. The hole sizes are pretty much exactly the lead diameter (fair enough) but the pads for soldering to are so small I don't think I have any tips that can even touch them with the leg in there.
Which is worse: heating the leg as much as I can and hoping it heads through to the pad (they're plated through), or using molten solder to heat the pad and removing the excess...
I would like to understand what type and what in the circuit makes it touch sensitive? I have built a ROG umble and would like to improve the touch sensitivity of it? If that is not possible suggestions on a low gain touch sensitive circuit would be apprecitated!!
Hey Everyone, these are a couple of pics of a Breadboard Power Supply which I designed myself,it is easy to build, and has positive and negative supply outputs which can be independantly varied from about 1.7 Volts to 19 Volts, and can supply a maximum of 500mA..... :)
I was wondering if there would be any interest in making this a constructional project for all members of Freestompboxes.org,I can supply all constructional details of my Breadboard Power Supply...... :)
Hey Everyone,
I'm new here. I've been looking around the site and can't find an appropriate place to post this so forgive me if I'm in the wrong area.
I am seriously interested in learning how to build my own stomp boxes from scratch and need some guidance on where to begin. I have limited knowledge on electronics. I bought the book Electronics projects for musicians and found myself lost. I can't read a schematic. But with a little direction I am a motivated learner and experimenter.
I have...
I´m still new to the whole reading schematic and getting them on veroboard thing(y), so I was just wondering if this veroboard layout is correct or not.
It´s for the GGG Shin-Ei FY-2 schematic WITH THE BOOST ADDED, which you can find here .
I am extremely bored and have little knowledge of electronics and building pedals, so I found this site and thought I would ask a quick question.
What kind of pedal could I create for fun out of an old mixer I have? I really wanted to make some sort of fuzz pedal but was told I would probably need some old transistors or diodes to get a nice fuzzy sound? I am an absolute beginner if you havent noticed! but really want to understand more
I can post pics of the mixers insides if you wish - it...
As I was following the E.W.S fuzzy drive saga and Analogguru's enlightening points about design and how lot's of mistakes are made when people copy 1:1 versions of previous booteek builds that had compromised got me thinking of coming up with a list of must observed practices when designing a pedal. Now this has been done but I was thinking along the lines of a quick and dirty list. input impedance of a circuit should not be over or under X amount(this was one of AG points on the fuzzy drive...
this is going to be my first vero attempt. what is going on at f8 to o8 (and c13 to k13, i14 to m14, etc.)?
appreciate the help!

Hi everyone.
I have found a pretty great website offering concise tutorials that appear to be based company spec sheets about electronics components and suggested uses and layouts. I wanted to share with the team. The website is Examcrazy.com and it appears to be a tutorial site for technical students. I thought it be useful for the apprentices like myself to the semi-pros and even the wise masters on whom we all focus close attention when we see their names beside a post.
I am (trying) to read a schematic and It has a bunch of parts leading to a ground. I am just wondering what the common ground used in guitar pedals is?
