Those panels are just amazing. How are they fabricated? Do you do it yourself or have them made?

That's killer. I've had no time to build lately, but when I get a chance this is on my to-do list. Looks and sounds amazing—congrats!

Beautiful. Nicest DIY work I've ever seen. Kudos to you!Ruprecht wrote:I made myself small CNC milling cutter some years ago so all this is my work
Sheet of tin is engraved first and then bended. Wood side panels are simply milled.

These should do the trick, you may need to play with the peak follower gain.

Thanks for your reply.
What is peak follower gain?
Is there a component to add, change or change value?

Crystal mic basically = piezo disk. Back in 1978 we did not have piezo disks I would not recommend an electret mic - they are fragile and they need a power supply. Depending on how the piezo is mounted and how hard you hit it, you might want some kind of high-voltage protection to protect the rest of the circuit (Yamaha actually puts spark gaps on their PCBs for this!). But if you just stick it to a hard flat surface as in the original Space Drums, it probably won't be necessary. Voltage generated is proportional to how much the disk flexes.

The missing value of resistor R16 is 330, according to original schematic.

I'm used to plugging a pair of electret capsules into my digital recorder, which has plug in power, when recording a gig.
