Arion - SOD-1 Overdrive  [schematic]

Here is the first draft of the schematic. This is the Japanese version that comes with the orange battery cover. My son in law has the version made in Sri Lanka but, this Japanese one sounds better. I prefer this pedal on my guitars with humbuckers. It does for hummers what a Tube Screamer does for single coils.

Enjoy!

Bypass switching and drive input mute.

Any recommendations on how to modify this pedal to have less distortion or gain? I was expecting this pedal to be more of an overdrive, but to my ears, it sounds more like a distortion pedal.

Diodes would be japanese 1s2076 I guess. They're very close to the common 1n4148.

A good start would be lowering the value of the gain pot (VR3).

Hi!

I just adjusted the schematic from the first post to suit my unit.

R19 = 7k5
C13 = 100n
R27 was missing (or doubled with R26) and is 10k

What are the components labeled W- supposed to be? I think possibly inductors I don't have the proper gear to test. It's not a diode, or resistor idk

I believe they are zero-ohm resistors, i.e. wire junctions disguised as resistors, serving as a second PCB layer. In the 80's it was quite common to opt for a [much cheaper] single layered PCB (with traces on just one side, like this board), and where absolutely necessary, use wire junctions on the component side. Zero-ohm resistors are just a more fancy way of doing the same thing.

For example, if you look at the circuit pictures and schematic you will find that W4 (right under the first jack on the left, corresponding to Out2) connects the four shorted pins of SW to the hot pin of Out2. It is not figured on the schematic, presumably because it is only relevant to the PCB layout, not the logical circuit. It would have been here:
