I've been searching all over the net for schematics and or mods for this interesting pedal in Ibanez's ToneLok series. I bought this pedal several years ago when they were first introduced as my only needs for an amp was a Crate practice amp and I wanted a heavey metal tone Anyway I pulled this thing out of the closet and found that even now running it into a clean tube amp it sounds alright. Biggest beef of mine is that the highs are a little too harsh. It has a mid scoop but it doesn't bother me too much. I cracked it open and the main board seems fairly reasonable for anyone with basic soldering skills to be able to mod. I found that there are two JRC4885D opamps inside this puppy. Anyway I figured that for a pedal going as cheap as it is on eBay this pedal might be fairly simple to mod into a fountain of metal goodness. Anyone know of any mods? Thanks.

Back when the tonelok line came out, i went in to guitar center and bought one of them every week until i had 5 or 6 of them.
I eventually got an SM7, and it seemed to sound kind of nice at the store, through whatever crappy amp they had set up.
I got it home, and didn't like it so much, even though i wanted to soooo badly. Like you said a bit too trebley, but also, the low end seemed voiced rather oddly, and then try putting it in sharp mode... "EEEEK" Actually both of the tone knobs just seemed like they were operating in the wrong parts of the frequency spectrum. Then i tried it with the band... when i turned it on the distortion just seemed to blend my guitar tone in to everything. Just basically disappeared.
Anyways, I still have mine somewhere, and have been wanting to take it appart and mod it at some point. I'll talke a look around tomorrow, and see if i can find it... It seems like there could be a nice circuit in that pedal waiting to be found.

If you take the pcb out of the case and add some additional controls you will have:
1.) standard Ibanez Input buffer followed by
2.) a mid tone control stage running into a
3.) Big Muff-style-Input-amp stage followed by a
4.) Tubescreamer-style overdrive stage running into a
5.) Distortion+ style diode-clipper, after this is a
6.) 6-band graphic EQ ... and to fight the produced noise a
7.) simple noise gate followed at last by an
8.) Output buffer
By adding some 25k potis (or trimpotis) it should be possible to tailor it to the desired sound.
The first step:
look for R51/R57 and replace it by a (trim-)pot
look for R52/R56 and do the same.
replace jumper R48 by a (trim-)pot - one outer lug and slider connects to the previous R48 the othe uter lug connects to the connection R56/R57.
A high-mid control can be added by cutting the wire from C28 to connector 201, placing the outer lugs of a (trim-)pot to R51/R52 and R56/R57 and the slider to C28.

There´s a sucker born every minute - and too many of them end up in the bootweak pedal biz.

wow thank you analogguru, sounds simple enough. I'll have to go pickup some trim pots and I'll report back.

I don't think it is a new rule - just the schematic image has disappeared and there is a request to re-attach it to the post...
Just go to Dirk Hendrik's answer and look for schematics on the site he referred to ! There it is .

I suppose then that the error is mine in part.
Could be a matter of points and signs?, "No schematic anymore. Can we reattach it?"
If so, my confusion is understandable and is easily avoidable by simply typing correctly.
I hope so!!

I'm not resurrecting this thread (so save the "it's been this many years!" comments). Anyway, I'm merely pointing out this entire thread should be deleted since 95% of the links are broken. These days, most major companies have dropped all their legacy support pages and documentation, seeing as how storing several megabytes of pdf's on a thumbdrive has become incredibly expensive and complicated. I mean, plugging a thumb drive into a server and sharing it is like nuclear physics-type stuff and costs....dollars!
