Rozz Delay Box DB-02

Postby KippeKiller » 26 Feb 2014, 10:23

Hello,

it's been a while since my last post or topic as i have been busy surviving :-)

I recently got my hands on a Rozz Delay Box DB-02 and i found out that there is nothing to find out about this little box on the Internet.
Does anyone know anything about it?
I'll post some gutshots soon haven't opened it yet as I want to test it's functionality first.

It's a pretty cool casing and has three pots for Delaytime, Repeats and Blend aswell as four toggle switches i'll know more about as soon as i tested it.

Does anybody know about Rozz effects, perhaps about this one?

Can you post pictures (also for FXDB ;))?

I have a DB-01, I know I found the DB-02 number somewhere but couldn't find anything about differences so I thought it was a mistake.

I see a DB-02 at TC Gakki now (thumbnail only) and I can't see any switches on the side (as on the DB-01), is that possible?

The only info on the forum on any Rozz unit is this one. Please do upload some good gutschots, that's the only way to generate interest in your thread.

thanks

It's a tricky thing with the gutshots as the nuts on the pots are pretty stuck.
I tried WD40 but no luck so far.
It has to be opened soon because it slightly distorts and there's a significant drop in volume when dry/wet is at approx. 50%.
Really nice for harsh noise at the time :applause:

The difference to the DB-01 seems to be the lack of the two toggle switches on the side of the unit.

Here's a pic

I apologise for the vast amount of time it takes.
Still haven't opened the unit, too many other projects.

It really took a while until i finally got this box back on my desk.
I opened it and inside i found a circuit way more sophisticated than expected.
It still loses a lot of volume when the blend pot is turned, in either extreme setting the volume is fine.
Make up your own mind, there is nothing else to find about this delay. It may be a challenge to trace it, i don't know yet.

I started digging into this unit.

Here's some first analysis:

There are eight ICs inside it
4 - SAD1024
3 - MC1458CP
1- TC4047P

Four Transistors
1 - K19 (2SK19)
1 - K30 (2SK30)
1 - C733
1 - K66 (2SK66)

The SAD1024 are pretty straight forward wired as suggested in the Datasheet for serial operation.
The Trimmers on Top of them are for clock-nulling, the 20K Trimmers between them are for reducing the input level to the next stage.
Via those four switches you can add or take away the delay-signal produced by each SAD1024, pretty nice feature.
I gonna start searching for the mixer stage as there are some issues.

If there are any questions or if someone wants some more detailed pictures let me know.
Not sure if it is of any interest to do the full tracing and drawing a schematic thing here as the SAD1024 ICs are rare, but it'd be fun i guess.
Maybe a workaround with some other ICs.
