Danelectro - Chicken Salad (rehouse)

Postby ChrisB » 15 Jan 2008, 19:04

Has anyone got a guide how to re-house one of these and add a true bypass switch. I am new to this but think this would be a great project to try...

Thanks

It's not so hard, but not the best place to start your first projet. Apart from the rehousing, which is easy with some tools and skills, you will have to take out the switching part of the circuit (transistor turn effect on and off) and mostly like cut some traces on the pcbs.

But we need a schematic for this, or some good pictures of both sides of the pcb. But if you are really happy with the sound, you will not have improved your sound at all. You might as wel just upgrade the FET transistors, Bajaman is the expert on this.

more later,

Here's a rehousing guide for a Tuna Melt Tremolo. It should give you some ideas...

Thanks, this guide is what peaked my interest. I'm just too much of a n00b at this that I don't know if this guide would apply exacty to the C Salad aswell.

I found a schematic on the web that I could post a link to later. I realise that the sound will not improve (maybe bypassed will) but I really fancy puttting it in a better box will maybe the bias pot on the outside like I saw posted elsewhere.

Thanks.

Thanks !

I bought 2 more CS's off eBay to have some more fun with.

The next one is going to have the LED that pulses with the LFO - not mounted on top.

I'm going to mount it upside down inside the box .....and do this............

Some photos of a recent Danelectro chicken salad rehouse -- done in fine fashion by Darren (Doc) Reid -- Doc's guitar repair and custom shop. CBS, Newfoundland, CANADA.

The color we chose is almost an exact match to a vintage MXR phase 90 (also shown).

That's cool !

I did one for a fellow earlier this year - in a wah shell also - came out great - much better controlling the speed via a treadle vs. trying to work the speed knob with your big toe ! :D

Nicely done.

I've been using these Dano pedals with my keyboard and some absolutely rule with keys....the Tuna Melt Tremolo for example kicks ass. I'll probably rehouse that one in the near future as well.

Darren 'Doc' Reid's website:

Check out the showcase !! He does a mean EVH Frankenstein-inspired replica !!!
