just taken mine apart again to play with and took some 'before' close-ups of the board for my reference.

as they are big and detailed i thought i'd post them here for future fsb vp1 modders too.

note: this is a different pcb (latest revision) to the 2008 one posted here viewtopic.php?f=11&t=408&hilit=behringe ... ser#p32406

though hopefully the led rate mod will still be possible. will report back with details of that if i get it going.

Hi

I have one of these in bits at the moment!

Has anyone successfully manages to replace the colour switch with a pot?

I've found some information here, but its a bit hard (for me at least) to translate them to the VP1

http://hammer.ampage.org/files/Device1-11.PDF

Any suggestions would be gratefully received !

Many thanks, Ben

try maybe a 1k pot replacing the switch? one side to input, one side to wiper... then you can sweep between both sides i'd imagine.

an even smaller pot would work better..but i haven't tried this. i traded off my modded vp1 a few months ago.

Hi thanks

As its a DPDT switch, i thought id need a double gang pot, maybe 1m? I thought a higher value pot would replicate the 'off' position better. Interesting you suggest a low value.

Ive actually got some 500r pots i bought by mistake ( whoops ) so maybe ill try a few options.

Many thanks
Ben

i didn't really read the device issue to see what the mod was, it looks like if you compare the pcb spoken of in the article to your behringer's circuit, it should be fairly easy to do.
good luck!

yeah, i said 500r cuz i thought it was just switching something, i haven't looked inside one in a long time. a dual gang 1m should do the trick. wire it the same as the switch is. i would imagine you could then pan between the two. if ya figure out where the dry/wet mix is you can add a switch (or again, a pot) so you can kill the dry signal and make a vibe out of it.

hey ben, if you link what jimi is saying above with the information available in the rest of this thread, particularly the links below, you may be able to make a decent stab at modding your vp1 as you are suggesting.
the trick is orienting your way around the behringer smd pcb using the schematic, and then linking that to the mods indicated on the small stone. there are also two different pcbs for the vp1 now (both shown in this thread).
be careful to observe that the component numbers (R1, C3, T2, etc) on the small stone will probably not agree with the behringer. it is the values you need to concentrate on (10K, 100n, etc).

schematic is linked in this post viewtopic.php?f=11&t=20053#p207573

mods are linked in this post (a french site but diagram is fairly self explanatory) viewtopic.php?f=11&t=20053#p241343

http://sounddiy.free.fr/images/effets%2 ... ations.jpg

the rest is a game of cross referencing. but there is a lot of potential in this one if you push it. see jimi's cap and vibe mod report. if you read back trough this thread you'll see some interesting ideas.
the saving grace with the vp1 is that it is so cheap that even if you completely destroy it as part of your experiments, you can get another for not much.

good luck with your modding.

Wow, thank you both so much for the really helpful replies.

I will have a play with it. I desoldered all the hardware then realised i didnt have the right pots, , so waiting for some more to arrive.

Its a great sounding little phaser for the crazy price.

Ill report back if i find out anything useful.

Many thanks, Ben

you'll get it, ben..... beware the "mods" i did tho, cuz i was unimpressed enough to ditch it afterwards. it DOES sound kind "leslie-ish"... like about all the other ones.

you got tabbycat offering great advice... TC rocks like a hurricane, i got zero doubt you will kick this thing's ass and make it ROCK. ;)

Does anyone know of a link that shows how to add a volume knob to the behringer VP1? I like the way this thing sounds but I get a noticeable volume drop with it. Thanks!
