i've seen a couple variants of this one, these apply to the two transistor more recent ones.

for all intents, its a v847 circuit. almost literally. so..... what to do?

well, lets start at the input. take out the 10n input cap, and replace with 22n. suddenly it has a much better wah range, adds about another octave of bass.
take out the 56k resistor in line with that cap, and go with a 39k (33k-47k are fine, but 39k has a distinct sound to it in the way the pedal reacts.)

replace the q1 e resistor with something around 220r instead of the stock 470. i just paralleled another resistor along side of it. this will up the gain and growl slightly and bring the pedal to unity gain if not true bypassing it (not worth it to me, as i want to keep the volume function intact)

for fun, try an npn germanium for q2. you may like it. i did. very sweet and vocal. but i lost some balls, and went back to the stock transistor there.

next up, get a decent inductor... i grabbed a red fasel outta the bin... and replace the transformer used as an inductor with it. the transformer will have one side connected to ground, with three pins. desolder them.

the other side will connect by two pins. desolder them, and remove the transformer.

what i did was solder in some cut off component leads to the solder pads on the board for the active side of the transformer.
i then used these to solder to the two posts for the inductor... it wont fit in the original holes, but thats ok. secure it to the board with tape, hot glue, whatever.

now flip it over (the board) and solder a 68k resistor from the node at the top of the inductor (to 100k/10uF) to ground.

finally remove the 220n output cap to the wah pot, and replace with 330n (geoff tease mod) to fix the sweep of the pot

now ya will have a hot-rodded weeper that sounds as good as any crybaby i have ever used, with a useful range of tone, unity gain, very vocal and mouthy with better sweep and tonal range. AND a volume pedal to boot.

i mean, yeah, the housing is plastic... i weigh just under 400 still (slowly losing more, yaaaay, down 60 lbs so far) and no problem standing up to ME. ;)

the circuit sounds great, and is so close to the vox already.

i figured i'd mess with it some, and report back cuz people often seem to ask about mods to this circuit and never get any replies.

hope it helps someone take a mediocre weeper and make it great. it'll be uge ;)

bugger!!! fuck me!! :slap: :slap: :slap:

that 39k in parallel with the inductor should be 68k, not 39k. i have no idea why i keep writing the wrong damn value. i did it last nite when i was writing it on the schematic, too. 39k is fine, but 68k makes it real nice and mouthy ;) :thumbsup
