My auction, closes in less than 5 hours. I'm disappointed in the bidding so far, but I did describe them accurately, and they are a bit strange...

You may find me negaitive but so far I've never seen any reason to use these high tolerance leaking paper things. The use is pure mojo IMHO...
Sorry. Plain out of planes.

They were used in every Philips tape-recorder, casette-deck and TV-set between ~1964 and ~1980. Later they became orange.

I have tons of those in every value. The only interesting mojo-value is 220n for Wah-Wah´s.

one problem is the mechanical stability. I would prefer to use Wima instead of them - and I wouldn´t pay more than EUR 0,05 for a 100n with correct leads on evilbay.

For the person looking to "sell" pedals, "mojo" or not, TF caps are something that adds value for the average pedal buyer. It doesnt matter whether you mention them in the ad, the mere sight of them makes people more likely to bid. I say this because in the couple auctions where I've used TF caps in the pedals, the buyer commented on them...even though they weren't mentioned.

Just a thought. "Presentation" is always important in sales.

Oh, I think that I have found now an application for my old (recycled) "burn-in" tv-caps...

Working on as much old gear as I do, the first thing that goes through my mind when I see TF caps is to wonder when the coating is going to start crumbling and admitting Florida humidity. There is NOTHING that compares to the sound of a coupling cap in the preamp of a Magnavox Ampeg SVT taking itself apart.

I've had vintage mustard caps do the same thing. In fact, they crumble and then the leads just sort of fall off. I'll take some pics of a couple that did that to me, so you'll see what I mean.
... of course you'll also see that they are pretty much identical to a Mallory 150 inside.

Humidity (alone) isn´t the problem..... the old ones from the 60´s (and early 70´s) even had a wax-coating over the color-coding.

The real problem is the bonding and the mechanical stability.
For this reason Philips itself never soldered the caps directly to the pcb without bending the leads before. You will find always this "U" shaped-bending between the cap and the pcb.

But I have to confess:
When I was 5 or 6 years old I also was totally impressed by the color-coding of the resistors from my father. But he didn´t like that I play with this nice colored toys...
