Since I'm not getting anywhere with the die-cast enclosure distributors, I'm going to plan B.

I do tech support/web design for a metal fab shop in town and I have talked to the owner/foreman about getting some boxes made up. The problem I'm running into is deciding what dimensions to make the boxes to.

I already have a fulldrive-sized box in mind, but other than that, I don't really know. The boxes would be stamped/folded from aluminum sheets and will have the inserts for the screws welded in place.

Anyone have any ideas? If you could get a custom enclosure built, what would it have/not have?

I would want one box to be the same as the Fulldrive and then another half that size.

ala old italian fuzzes/fx brands.
kinda like oversized doorstops.

the 69 and 70 fulltone enclosure is perfect for me:
you can build almost everything in there, from fuzz to chorus
and even a tubedriver would fit in there.

ok, i got a preliminary price on the Fulldrive2 sized boxes. I can get them for 14.50 each. They would be exactly like the fulltone boxes. Shipping would be only what the post office would charge, so no inflated charges whatsoever.

I'm getting prototypes made next week, so I'll post the pics here when I get them.

Any interest? I'm also getting a half sized FD2 box and a wider (think Hughes & Kettner tubeman) box made up too.

If I get enough people buying boxes, I plan on sending Modman a donation to help keep this site going.

I would run away from square or rectangular enclosures like the sansamp type or the MXR type, way too many people doing this.

I like the Big Cheese, banzai fx, and the Dunlop tremolo and univibe style. They're kinda big but really stand out.

I love the old marshall supa fuzz and vox tonebender enclosures but I guess those are not folded sheets, they're melted ali on a shape (sorry, don't know the technical slang in english).

I'm going to order some boxes and wanted to know if the Hammonds are $3 better each or am I really getting the same thing. I don't mind paying more for a better box but just wondering.

Save yourself the money. Unless you are building for extremely large and heavy mammals.....such as a sasquatch.

I've had nothing but good luck with the aluminum enclosures from Pedal Parts Plus. EHX is even using the smae ones on their new smaller pedals.

EHX, or Newsensor rather, is the one that imports them, and sells them to just about everyone. They have a $500 min order though.
The enclosures say NSC inside... for New Sensor Corporation.
