Crapola.......
test rig:
Group buy MN3005's:
first clue - all have the same date code:
second clue - fake on top - genuine on the bottom - note the size of the logo:
genuine MN3005:
third - geniune 3005 legs:
fake 3005 legs:
fourth - overall shape and top indentation (genuine on the left - fakes on the right):
that's a "real" one on the end to compare the fakes to:
the lineup (real 3005 on top) - take note of the second one from the right - note the "imperfection" in the top of the chip:
once again - overall shape and lack of a top indentation:
I have plenty to test against - if there's any doubt at all - these ARE fakes:
I stopped after testing 3 - just for kicks - I knew they were bunk when I emptied them out of the tube - but I figured "what the heck":

I do have some legit 3005's that look pretty similar to these fakes - they don't have the "border" around the top. But the "crisp" edges of the fake IC were a little too clean and crisp, in comparison to my real 3005 - the body of the IC is "too" squared up..... side by side, though, it's night and day.
fake on the left, genuine on the right (my genuine does look different than dz's)

WOW! This is very disappointing news. Thanks for taking the time Dan. Do we have a plan B?

Daniel,
Did you test some of em as well in circuit?
(and more tricky, do you have capability and guts to test them in a MN3205 type circuit)(This type of packaging (with the missing pins) is difficult to fake)
Some of your evidence doesn't necessarily mean fakes. A different imprint in the bottom, as well as shape of pins could suggest another wafer packaging machine. These chips have been manufactured for years. Now if they had the same datecode but different imprints that would be a better sign.

Fake on the left. Real on the right. Note date codes.
Look familiar?
Different source. Same crap.
BTW, the bad ones I got from Utsource (who admitted they were fakes) were promptly replaced w/real MN3005's that all tested working.
Group buy for V3205 anybody?

I've got another quote from the same source we bought the MN3005 from last time. $18 each and he says they're from the same supplier the last group buy came from. Same deal with 30 day return policy. I remember that out of 200 chips last time I had maybe 5 bad ones.osa wrote:http://electro-music.com/forum/download.php?id=20924

Dirk (and all),
Yep - I did test them in my Aqua Puss. No delay at all. Trimmers were also tweaked - and no delay.
Unfortunately I do not have a 3205 circuit around.

Frustrating huh? I sat like that with 10 3007's, hoping at least one of em would work....danielzink wrote:Dirk (and all),

Thanks for the detailed info mate. Much appreciated. I hope you'll be able to minimize losses on these.

Looks like I'll be able to return the MN3005s. I can order the other ones and have them in a couple of weeks. Should I go for it or is everyone too bummed at the moment?
