Sorry I can't help you really but,
The best supply I found was in the DOD 595A phaser I ebayed last saturday for an approximated 6 us dollars. There were 3 of those dual vactecs in there ;)
Sorry. Plain out of planes.

Thanks Dirk
Steve Daniels at Small Bear Electronics in NYC has pretty much the whole range of vactecs in stock except the VTL5C10 as used in the Demeter Compulator.
i emailed him and he said he will get some in for me with his next order from his supplier - US$7.00 each!!
I think he may put this particular device into stock, if there is sufficient demand for them from other DIYers. :D

I am not bitching about Steve's prices - I find his service excellent, his range extensive and his service extremely prompt, but it makes me wonder why these devices are so difficult to source (Banzai are the only other retailer I could find - Mouser, Digikey, Futurlec etc had nothing at all). I may as well be speaking Martian, if I tried to order them from anyone in New Zealand too.
and why a cadmium sulphide LDR cell and yellow led are so expensive when packaged together like these are.

Allied has the VTL5C10. Looks like they have plenty in stock as well.

Hey thanks Martin
I see they are US$6.83 - 17c cheaper than smallbear.
I have never dealt with Allied before, but i can tell you that Steve's postal charges to Northern Antarctica (NZ) are extremely cheap - i have often had to pay 3 times the price for similar weight of parts from other North American companies, but i have adde Allied to my favourites list for future reference
Many thanks
bajaman

ps: my opto compressor is all go!!! - just have to finalise redrawing the schematic and the next Baja project will be appearing soon in the DIY projects section

I put a personal boycott on Allied Electronics. When I ordered stuff for the Voodoo Vibe build they split my order into different shipments and charged me accordingly. $24.00 worth of parts ended up costing me about $50!!!!
Fukked up thing is when I ordered online it showed all stock on hand, but when I spoke to a rep upon receiving a partial order they said they were in middle of a warehouse move and will ship as the parts turn up. I have no idea why I had to pay for their ineptness. Needless to say, they lost a new customer pretty damn quick!!!
If just ordering 1 item things shouldn't be too difficult for 'em though.

I've ordered from them many times, and never had any problems.
