Now, there are TWO 8)

Only take ONE apart.

The way the connections are made with spade terminals to copper pcb, it's a wonder that the units have continued to function as much as they have for as long as they have

Yep. That would be a good idea if either one of the ones in captivity were in my cage. Or even both of them in the same cage. They're held by two guys in different towns, each of which want their unit to work. All this techie stuff is easy. It's the *people* stuff that's hard. :D

So far one of them seems to be healthier than the other. And in any case, there's nothing inside that can't be replaced, if necessary. No magic unavailable chips or whatnot.

That and a number of other things about the construction. These were not the product of engineering for reliability by any means.

The devil that sits on my left shoulder just whispered something ugly in my ear. He wants me to do a layout for this thing... in SMD with 0603 resistors and caps. That might even get it into a pedal instead of a console.

Yep, that is what the devil would say.

hi peeps,
wellp, i got one...this is the one i lost 30 some odd years ago, was living in my old drummer's garage since about 1980 or so. took a lot of restoration, even some fabrication of parts, to make it work again...but it does.

so here ya go, since so few peeps have ever seen or heard one...this lame-ass video doesn't do justice, not even a drop in the bucket to what this thing is capable of!!

enjoy!!

peace!

wellp, they both are functional now...it's a little worse than r.g. thinks, cuz we're both in different countries.
lol

but...the info is coming along nicely..

as for smd??? for shame!! lol!!

tho in fairness, ya could fit the whole thing in a crybaby shell at that point probably!! ;)

i see the cloning as inevitable...once we find the proper replacement parts, we can build a workalike/soundalike,

to truly clone them will probably require getting some chinese guys involved...lol

that's the idea...first clone is in process, mine is 100% restored, and one of my bros there got one too now, so we're goin' for it...so watch that thread!!
if anybody has any questions, feel free to hit me up. eventually i'm gonna try and consolidate all the info we've gleaned into a humongous zip file and up it to my website.

GREAT WORK! so far, JIMI :!:

I've been archiving all the schemos and pcbs for a "future" project :?
Was hoping(ahem) to clone a few pcbs at end of august :hmmm:

I figured out how to download your YouTube Demo as a mp4.
Excellent DEMO on the working/soundings of the PhaseII :!: :!:
I'm watching BOTH threads

thanks bro, but it's not just me....rg, keppy, and dino among others have contributed ALOT to this endeavour!! the only thing i hope is that somebody doesn't get nefarious and try and take our work, given freely to the internet DIY community and try and profit off it.

i doubt anyone would care about a few clones being built and sold. (well, the guys trying to get 5 grande on ebay, maybe, but SCREWWWWWWWWW them). but i mean, like mass-producing them to make personal profit.
:horsey:

you know the drill...build one for yourself, hook up a couple friends, maybe sell one or two to break even...nobody's gonna begrudge that, i don't think.
but try and claim it for oneself, just to get rich? :slap:

well, that kinda person can run, but they WILL DIE TIRED!! lol.

but seriously...anything i can do to help anyone that wants to take the plunge, gimme a holler.

peace!

There's one on the big auction site and it hadn't bid for more than $300 USD this morning. I put a link to it on the
D*A*M website. It's under the "fuzz" heading. :applause: I hope the price doesn't leave the Stratosphere by the time the auction completes. It's missing a handle and a few slider knobs on the controls. But damn clean I tells ya! :thumbsup

Hey JIMI,
yes, kudos to Keppy too :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:
His pcb clone layouts are spot on for gittin' er done
Actually, i'm only interested in the "fuzz animation" part of the circuit.
Just like for the HiFli, where, to me, the phaser part was the most interesting.
Again, hat's off to all U'z guys :thumbsup

i saw it there...waiting to try and snipe it, but i bet it never hits the reserve the guy wants.
it's got some burned out lamps and stuff too, and he accepts no returns. makes me suspect!!

the fuzz animation is two parts...formant filters for the wah pedal, or self-oscillating, and an organ style percussion repeat.

the formant filters are the most cool part , tone man. the fuzz is ok, but nothing spectacular. but combined with the formants, it's neat as hell! :D

couldn't agree with U more, dude :!: 8)

Just that i'm currently working on my 3rd MeatBall and 2 Dipthonizers :!:
So...... i just let the "format" slip thru

For format filters, I prefer OTAs and voltage control as they are more accurate in terms of tuning.
The Dipthonozer, Meatball, Vocalizer, and TalkingPedal all use MultipleFeedbackFilters.
Hard to tune accurately.
Synth filters, otoh, usually use OTAs and allow linear or exponental movement.

Hey, look at that auction :!:
Gone to $488 with reserve STILL not met
