i was lucky enough to own one of these back around 1980...it was a leftover, never used pedal from a long defunct electronic music program at my high school, and the retiring band director gave it to me.
let me tell ya what, it's not hype, it's about THE coolest pedal you could own. the animation control was amazing, as was the fuzz/preamp(15 watts, if memory serves) but my fav part was the "vowel" switch that made the wah actually appear to make vowel sounds as it was swept..."aaaaaaaayyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeiiiiiiiiiiooooooooooooooewwwwwwwww..........."it was sick!!!!!!

i was an idiot, did a trade for an old vox amp and a 1/2 a lid of grass. i was such a stupid kid!!!

it ended up being "absorbed" by an insurance company when the trailer my friend was towing was demolished by a tractor trailor in arizona close to 30 years ago...don't know if it survived, my friend wouldn't chance trying to salvage anything in fear of losing the insurance money.

wanker.

but...if someone could clone this pedal, it would be an ultimate achievement imho. i believe the biggest obstacle (and why i ditched mine) were the footswitches..
they were, at the time, impossible to replace, something like dp8t's or something ridiculous.

maybe the thing to do would be to make it in modules...it'd be a bear to clone i think.

The guys on the other forum are making some good progress with this effect. It would be fucking awesome to build one of these.

Yeah, I'd recomend that anyone who wants to help gets involved in DIYS.

Current challenge is the switching I think.

Without any doubt you're telling the thruth, ;)

I sometimes, while reading these threads, get the feeling there's hundreds of people that at some time owned one of this proclaimed very rare effect

While it's said that only a few hundred were ever made, what with 6 degrees of seperation and all that; so far we've had one person with a lead on buying one and another saying his drummer has one... It's rich but not TOO rich. We'll see.

been looking at, and compiling as much info as possible to try and create a viable clone.
to that end, i posted on my facebook that i was looking for information on the switching, power supply, etc...

well....turns out my old drummer got one about 30 years ago. in a trade for some weed. lol. :secret:

i traded my old one off for weed and a 50 watt vox about 1978 or so. it appears he got it from the person i traded it to!!!

so anyways...long story short...

i'm picking it up next friday nite at a gig i'm playing near his home town.....in trade for my fender fmt tele, a rare gray burst with some really nice stripes.

so...soon, i'll be able to hopefully supply info to all who are interested in cloning this beast!!!!

stay tuned....

roger that 8)

having pics of the actual pcb, top and bottom, would greatly speed up cloning :D

Hi there,

Are you talking about this device:

Image

There is another post at this same forum, about it: https://www.freestompboxes.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=3657

If we google images about "Ludwig Phase 2" then appears the schematics, boards and so on.

Cheers,
Jose

More challenging are the switching arrangements, power needs, obsolete components etc...

Trimpots as well; nobody knows what they're aiming for

hi guys.
i'm aware of the threads around the net, here and otherwise..since myself and another individual are in process of obtaining examples, we aim to get the rest of the info together so that anyone who wants to can build their own.

This pedal was so over the top that it always intrigued me. But it was clear from the first time I looked at the schemos that it was impractical to do unless one of them was in captivity to work from. The many controls and the yards of wiring were just too impractical until one could be captured.
