hi all,

I forgot all about this chassis and some transformer I had lying around and thinking about putting it together.
IMG_4692.JPG
Transformer to the left was meant to be a power transformer for a tube project, had some paper documentation that long fled off. It says:

Code: Select all

Herst. Trafo. Spezial
Type EI66/88-23,5
Nr.25.201-3515.2 Ind 06
110 / 220 V / 50Hz
Herst Dat 13 JULI 89
HV gepr. mit 4125V 3300V 550V
I've tried to google this stuff already a number of times, but need the name of the manufacturer, I suppose.

The middle transformer came out of a tube reel to reel machine with 12AX7's (i vaguely remember) but I forgot what rectifier tube or power tubes were in there. It says ATT-333 0-KSM-WGO

The third small one is definitely an orginal Fender or Jensen transformer 220-7310 C Also say Z-3663. That I don't find this part online really makes me wonder... Is it a choke or reverb driver?

Question is simply how to I determine whether I can use either of these transformers for a my Deluxe?

The answer is simple too, first find a schematic for 5E3.
Second test every transformer to see what voltages put out.
Third found a classic Fender chassis layout, and do testing and testing.....

Hey thanks, that is a good read.

Meanwhile the only progress on the project is the building of the cabinet:
5E3 Tweed Deluxe head cabinet front
5E3 Tweed Deluxe head cabinet front
5E3 Tweed Deluxe head cabinet back
5E3 Tweed Deluxe head cabinet back
I also tested the power transformer
AT333 transformer measurements
AT333 transformer measurements
Which allows some ideas about the leads if you study this great video:
  • 5V never has a center tap.
  • high voltage has the highest resistance.
  • 1.2 ohms would be consistent with a primary
  • 5V and 6.3V has the lowest resistance
This would mean:
BLUE 5V
RED 6.3V with center tap WHITE
YELLOW/BROWN HV center tap PURPLE
GREEN MAINS center tapped?

And the smaller transformer, of which I am now convinced it is an output transformer.
