Say that I would want to use a combo as a speaker cabinet, do I simply ad a jack that goes to the speakers, impedance aside, are there any other issues?

As long as the speaker is Electrically & Mechanically disconnected from the internal amp and only powered by the external amplifier then there is no issue.

Thanks! And even if the internal amp is switched off? Guess I'll just put a switch in there.

I'm not sure we are on the same page???
Mount a socket on a bracket in side the back of combo,, solder the speaker to that socket.
Now you mount 6.5 phono plug on the speaker wires that come from internal amp so
Now there is no way the internal amp can accidentally switched on while an external amp is driving that speaker.
Hope that makes sense.
