Van Halens New album ?

Postby Ice-9 » 08 Feb 2012, 19:32

I've just listened to Van Halens new album "A different kind of truth". I have to say, has Dave lee Roth joined the Sammy Hagar band here ? I was expecting the real Van halen sound of, smack you in the face guitar, but all I hear is that horrible chorus type overdrive that is so Sammy Hagar era and that Van halen 3 exterme geezer era.
Eddie's playing is on form for ability but the songs are just wishy washy pish. FFS Eddie get rid f the poxy sound and get ya Van Halen II sound back, or even 1984 sound as that was great and don't right songs for Sammy Hagar for DLR to sing. Rant over.

I give it 2/10 (and thats honest as Van Halen were one of my formative bands)
It's fairly straight forward, if you want to start it , press start. You can work out the rest of the controls for yourself !

Whatever the rest of the album is like, it can't be worse than the video for the first single.

As a means of apologising for the abject crapness of the video (and aforementioned guitar tone) above, here is a good VH video!

I came to VH late, mid to late 90s, then bought everything I could. I actually liked the VH3 songs, just Gary's voice was hopeless and the recording was the worst job I'd heard to that point. Since then it's just going from bad to worse. The last tour sort of ground to a stop amidst drunken-ness and incompetence and that video for this album just sucks. Eddie's solo is derivative of his older stuff at best, and just incoherent at worst. I'm afraid substance abuse and selfishness have conspired to create a band that will never approach its former glory.

Non-sucky band of the same era:

And 20 years later they still didn't suck!

So they made a video.....

Where do they plan on showing it? If I remember correctly, MTV (and ALL its itterations), VH-1, etc. only show Reality TV and Award shows.

Who is gonna see this  Except here of course :thumbsup

Saw Van Halen in 82 back when they rocked. Diver Down had just came out... Eddie can wail on G, but its like Motley Crue and Poison etc. They are DONE. That's what happens to Hair bands... AC/DC still crankin', ZZ Top killer, name a Hair Band... not so much. Spandex is over and so whatever... Know who's gone but STILL relevant?

This song may single handedly bring Weird Al out of retirement....

I saw Van Halen at Gateshead Stadium 1995 as guests of Bon Jovi, Ed was quite stationary as he explained he'd just had a hip replacement but VH rocked at that gig glad I got to see them. I also saw them at Shefield but that was not so good. Bad seating and atmos.

After having a better listen to the new album I still feel its poor.

So its Hagar's fault that EVH's tone is crap? If he wanted to sound like VH2 I am certain he could.
