relays or onto for preamp channel switching Q

Postby chicago_mike » 14 Sep 2016, 20:36

So I am in the design process of a 2 channel bass preamp. Nothing fancy..

one channel fender / alembic/ aguilarish, second channel ampeg like.

I'd like to be able to use relays or onto for channel switching but cannot find any articles.

Anybody got something like this?

do u mean "relays or "OPTO" for preamp......"?

5V reed relays have small size and low power requirements.

"Optos" are light-dependent-resistors, and do not provide full isolation.

A circuit really. Something that shows a simple channel switch idea.

I think I found a couple things tho. 8)

Hi Mike

Well it depends on the circuit you're working on..
I mean, does it share any preamp stage or tone stage between channels?
On a guitar tube preamp I built years ago, I used reed relays bypassing (or not bypassing) triodes in series and selecting tonestacks.
They're quite noiseless and affordable. You can use any relay bypass circuit you find here around.

I also modified several Soldano's SP77 to solve their "channel bleeding" opto's issue...

Have a look at the schematic for the Carvin Vintage 33 at carvinmuseum.com
