possibly I know there is a Ubuntu Linux out there but never used it or Linux for that matter. I have heard that linux and mac are similar but I guess I'll google that later. Why do you ask? Is it important that I get it to be able to run this program?

There is also a 3rd party Java for mac called soylatte so I'll be looking into this also when I get some spare time.

You said you hate windows, so I mentioned linux as a free alternative. Ubutnu is as easy to use as windows and maybe even easier to install.

Canonical, the company that makes the Ubuntu Operating System, just recently released Ubuntu 10.10,you can download the disk .iso file from their website,it is only about 700Mb in size.... :)

Excellent work so far.

I 'd like to request the ability to differentiate between jumpers on the bottom of the board vs the top.

Generally, when building on perfboard, I try to put components and jumpers on the top of the board running "north-south" and jumpers on the bottom running "east-west", but when the board gets crowded, I wind up breaking the rules sometimes.

Having different colors for the topside and underside jumpers can make the layout clearer, and avoid any unintentional crossed circuits.

Will the final version provide the user with the ability to create his own component images?

I like the new version, but in general it could be useful to check, if the number of clicks that is needed to reach a function can be reduced.

what functionalities could be optimized?

you mean create his own components? If so, it's possible even now, but API still changes so it's best to wait. Here's the guide http://code.google.com/p/diy-layout-cre ... mponentAPI
Cheers

Version 3.0.4 is released.

If you're running older version 3.0.x, you should be able to see the yellow light bulb in the bottom left corner indicating that updates are available. Click on it gives the list of changes and download link. From now on, I'll keep that feed updated.

After I released 3.0.4, I found that editing numerical values is messed up. I'll fix that in the next round, but there should be enough good stuff in this version to make it worth checking out.

Is it the finished version,or are you still doing developmental work on it,Bancika?.... :)

What I like most about this new version is that I no longer have to use the command window to launch it,all I have to do now is right-click on the exe file, and click on run,and it launches, simple as that,I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 32Bit edition on my PC,and DIYLC works fine..... :)

One question,is there a way to expand the range of component symbols?..... :)

Cheers Bancika.... :thumbsup

it's called alpha, so there will be a lot of more to be done :)
I'll start expanding component set soon, did you have any particular components in mind?
Anyone can add their own components, but you need to know java.

Cheers

No worries.... :)

You already have symbols for ICs,Diodes,Capacitors, and Resistors,so I think maybe symbols for bipolar transistors, voltage regulators(eg:LM7815,LM7915 etc),Leds, trimpots,PCB pins(for off-board connections),and any of the other standard electronic components too, could be added, maybe some other members could add their ideas on what other component symbols could be added.... :hmmm:

It would be cool to have some way of generating a .pdf of a finished layout created by DIYLC as well, not sure how feasible that is.... :)

awesome! love the resistor color bands (though it's still buggy, 47k comes out as green, purple orange instead of yellow purple orange).

As soon as I start working with text it crashes regularly. For some purposes a bolder font would be useful.
