Most of us probably already know about this program but I thought I'd post it anyway.

DIY layout creator has got to be the easiest layout program I have ever used. No it's not perfect, it won't easily run on a MAC and there are some other slightly annoying glitches. The more you use it though the better you get at working around the glitches

you could try to run it in compatibility mode for XP, I think that solves the problem.
Damn vista, I hate it so much :x

Just wondering if there's any software for doing vero/stripboard layouts on the computer, though of having a go at that JD10. Don't fancy going the PCB direction just yet, anything out there?
Thanks
Rob :)

i prefer Stripmagic for vero layouts these days. the ability to easily check your connections and print the backside with the trace cuts can't be beat.

although there are a few minor bugs. nothing too bad though.

I set up DIY layout Creator under Windows 7 and as I launch the program it says "No active document" and this message window comes up again and again after you click its close button. Does anyone have any experience with DIY layout Creator on windows 7 ? It seems this software is no longer supported.

That's just one of the many annoyances with all the later versions of Windows. Microsoft want full control of what you do with your computer, including trying to force you to use software they "approve".

Your only real options are to pay for an expensive CAD program, install Eagle CAD (free, but very flawed), or go open-source. I've used open-source software since 1992, and wouldn't use MS rubbish if you gave it to me! I use PCB, Geda, and severaln other OS programs for my design work. I can even run DIY Layout Creator under Wine!

Windows 7 is now installed in my office so I can't replace it by anything else.
Having used diy layout creator for a year I grew used to this program so much that it seriously affects my mind when I'm thinking about a layout for a schematic.
But thank you for advice.

The problem is solved. I should have changed down the level of user account protection during installation (or something like this which was not actually recommended). By default the level is too severe to run old installers.

Try this page instead:

BTW, you'll probably want the earlier version... it's had less bugs for me.
