Instrument level > Line Level & Line Level > Instrument leve

Postby fishfude » 15 Jan 2015, 12:36

Hi Folks,

I want to use my mini kaoss pad with my guitar. I'll probably be coming from another effects pedal and then want to go into the kaoss pad. Before I go into the kaoss pad I want to be able to control the levels. After the Kaoss pad I want to be able to control the levels, then go into an amp.

So basically I'm thinking of an in/out box for before and after the kaoss pad to bring it up to line from instrument level, then back down from level to instrument.

Any thoughts on how to convert from instrument to level and vice versa?

Thanks,
ff

My thinking was using a buffer/preamp for the inst > line & then just a buffer + pot for the line to instrument? Does that make sense?

Would someone at least be able to tell me the factors I have to consider when converting from instrument level to line leve?

Cheers,

I'd say you maybe over thinking this,, line level is a relative term depending what gear is in use and is only of concern when levels are vastly different.
In most cases the signal from any old stomp box is close enough to go direct to line input.

the kaoss volume adjustment will likely be able to trim the input signal, If it cannot do that the and the signal distorts badly then look deeper.

The kaoss line out will likely be hot enough for most guitar amps,, if that is what you wish to do?

if im going from from the Kaoss pad to the guitar amp, would that signal not be hotter than a normal guitar signal coming from a pedal chain?

So for my instr. > line I'm thinking of using this fella:

With a 1k pot instead of 100k.

For the line to instrument I was thinking of just using a 10k pot for voltage division?

Or maybe this might be a better input buffer/preamp

I think the fellow phatt is right in his advice, and after reading your thoughts, looks to me like you've not tried and see what happen... you ain't gonna break nothing
I think you should try as it is and see if there's a real problem with your levels, and then, you can look for the proper solution.
