No pressure senor. I just thought I would ask. I can use vero but I have a high failure rate so far. question: would you mind if I put a link to your design on Hoffman's el34world forum? There is a section for 'effects' and I'm sure some of those fellas would like to seee e and hear it.

post script: I see you added a PCB! so nice of you. thanks

sure, go for it.
peeps will probably laugh at it. ;)

but it sounds good to me.

the pcb should be fine. you'll have to figure out the scaling, i don't know anything about that stuff

good luck, and have fun my friend ;)

Yes I know. People talk but talkers don't accomplish anything. They just talk.

The pcb with 'overlay' is not PNP correct?

it was made with diylayoutcorrector, with an average spacing on 4-5 holes between resistors.

i have no idea how the scaale works out or if printing it as shown is accurate. check the help files of the program would be my best advice,
or print it a couple times until the size is right while messing with the scale i guess.

sorry, above my present paygrade.

i just tried printing it to see the resultant size of it, and it says 12.7 x 13.2 cm or 5.00 x 5.2 inches on paper which i'd assume is bigger than it should be.
if ya resize it so the chip fits, the rest should be good to go i would imagine.

sorry mate, best i can do at this point.

print the pnp layout at 50% size and it should be perfect bro

good luck, let me know how it works out! 8)

I just got a laser printer (way to go for pcbs according to all the xpurts) but I haven't really figured out how to use it yet. I'll have to do some speermentation and I'll bounce you back. 50% sounds bout right. Like you said, as long as the pins for the op amp fit the holes everything else should be very close. Close enuf for hand grenades and horse shoes anyway.

revised schematic

bugger. just noticed one mistake... top of the 4.7m resistor also goes to "a". will try and revise and reupload when i can.

PJP; hi. one question: I read your description by the pcb layout, "a pnp kinda pcb layout" but the next pic which is the pcb with overlay looks like it is designed for
npn ? Am I missing something ? thanks again

my bad again. by pnp kinda layout i meant press-n-peel

it is an npn transistor ya wanna use. hfe 170-440 or so sounds great. higher hfes can sound good too, but tend to be a bit hissy.

I wanted to write a brief review of Jimi Photon's new 'Ruby Doobie' which I just finished with the help of Jimi's well crafted pcb (available from Jimi). The pcb is very cleanly laid out, sturdy and the solder pads make great solder joints even with a fat head soldering iron tip. You will notice in the picture that I used two large by comparison .018 caps in parallel to get .036 where the schematic calls for .039. I didn't have anything close to .039 so that's how I decided to fill the two places in the circuit that call for the 39n caps. I mounted it in my test enclosure and she fired right up. I tested six or seven different npn transistors and even a germanium AC176. My favorite is a little Si number called the BC547. It is very smooth as well as powerful and has lots of chime. The "bias pot" is a really dynamic and worthwhile feature of this circuit. I got absent minded when I got it done and put it in front of my 8 watt Teisco Checkmate 17 amp instead of running it as a 1 watt Cricket style amp.

End result: a very great sounding, easy to build, low parts count circuit that can give up all kinds of different sounds with the use of the 'Gain', 'Balls' and 'Bias' pots. I dialed mine in with the BC547 in just a few seconds and I would call it's sound a lot like the TS-808 that is one of my favorite pedals. I quickly reached to point volume-wise that the vintage Teisco 10" speaker could not handle the power and heavenly frequencies so I had to back off on fully testing the hotter settings that can be achieved. I will have to try it with a much heftier speaker to explore the outer limits of this smokin' Doobie. Kudos to Pink Jimi for the re-creation of some legendary sounds and the possibility of new screaming guitar heights with a design that costs only a few dollars to build. Well done Jimi! :applause:
