anyone seen a reasonable DIY project for a tube dirven direct box, hopefully one that runs on low voltage (like a 12AX7 tube or something like that)?

Although the real novelty of this "invention" is unclear to me.

I'm skeptical about a low voltage tube circuit sounding very good as a DI. They're best for overdrives. Though, the Presonus Blue Tube I have has a low voltage tube circuit in it and it sounds pretty good as a DI, BUT the tube in the Blue Tube really isn't doing any of the DI-ing work, it's more there to dial "hair" into the signal.

The Tube's role in BK Butler SS-Tube hybrid is to effect the OA's feed back in real time. From the brief glance I gave the file, I gathered that Butler idea is to impose the "tube dynamics" on the OA.

I should probably read through this doc more thoroughly.

The Idea was not new but BK butler did ad protective measures to the hybrid stage so that it could work when the tube is malfunctioning
