Very interesting stuff.

…but I think quaternotetriplet was thinking to outboard preamps.

Having said that, I think the Sadowsky outboard preamp (no longer produced) is the outboard version of the preamp that Sadowsky puts in his basses.

Not 100% sure about the Fodera outboard preamp (aka Fodera Model 2000) but I think it is the boxed version of the Mike Pope preamp used in Fodera basses.

Regarding Aguilar, I think the only outboard preamp in production at the moment is the Tone Hammer. It is supposed to be very good but, knowing Aguilar, I wouldn’t be surprised if internally, it was a SMD unit in a solid black cube of resin.

This is a great forum and I really like it but I haven't seen too many clean, bass-oriented effects here.

You can find 11 pages of discussion of a booster containing only 1 transistor or the schematics of almost every distortion/overdrive on earth but if you are looking for schematics of boutique bass preamps, I don’t think you will find them here.

I saw a (gooped) board of the Sadowshy bass preamp a while ago and if I remember correctly, it contains only a couple of transistors. It sells at $198-$249.

I look forward to see what these preamps are really made of and if they worth the money they sell for but I don’t think it will happened any time soon.

FWIW, the aguilar outboard preamp is just the whole epoxied onboard bass preamp mounted in a stompbox. ;-)

cheers,

You are right lohstah :thumbsup I forgot about that.

The new Tone Hammer is a different beast though.

Just use quiter parts in a 2 band or 3 band active eq schematic.

All those guys will epoxy their stuff so one risks damage to break open the covered pcb.

Take an swr preamp circuit, remove the tube and use fixed eq points rather than a sweepable freq.

try opa 2134's. a friendly fyi, the "aural enhancer" is a "fender" tone stack, with a blend control.

and other bass pres with a "tonal" balance use a big muff tone control...more suited for bass. I dont know if they have the midrange cut or have the modded circuit for flat response.

Thats a good circuit.

Bill also makes it with a 3 way freq shift control for the mids and also an 18volt version..I dont know these schematics or have them though.

another would be the interstellar overdrive schematic at freeinformationsociety. just use the 3 band eq part really.

i have a couple of schematics including one of a wal, they can all be found over at forum.musikding.de but i will upload them anyways. i've also merged two in an attempt to make an onboard preamp for my bass, but have gotten fed up with the project (can't find the right pots in the local market, pain in the ass to find in india) and put it on ice...

will post this info in a day or two... need to find it all again.

Did anyone find a Sadowsky schematic?
I've got a Sadowsky Bass Preamp/DI sitting around, in a unmodded and nonworking condition. The board is SMD and ungooped. Tracing this is beyond my abilities, but if someone else wants to do it I'll mail it to them.

If I wasn't totally hopeless in tracing circuits I would be very happy to do it.

No volunteers?

Hi
I have compiled SWR and AMPEG preamp circuits in to one I was thinking to build but newer get around, also design pcb for it.If there is interest somebody can build it.pcb made in diptrace software and schem in eagle, somehow it was the way I have done it.can provide diptrace file but schem was loston hdd crash, but saved as image.
