my new delay, over the top PT2399's

This is my attempt into a delay, a not so simple one.
My aim is to squeeze the maximum delay times and clean repeats from the PT chips, and add some fancies that match my taste for delay, which is some modulation and other tricks in order to achieve a very atmospheic and lush sound.
It provides up to ~400ms of quite clean delay time, and 1sec of sensible max time (with some grit), and plenty of clean repeats

The main signal path is the usual: pre-emphasis, compressor, delay stages, low-pass filters, expanding, output emphasis/voicing.
Bypass is made with cmos gates (4053), to keep the tails of the delay in the background even when the effect is switched off.
Additionally, there is a side chain to rectify and get the envelope to light an LED/LDR which modulates the delay time for a touch-sensitive chorus effect.
The part with the 4027 latch is for switching the control signals, using momentary switches.
Feedback is taken from the end of the line, after the expander stage, as usual. But theres a second feedback (switchable) that makes a full regeneration (sort of "infinite wall of sound") but not getting the volume out of hand. Its volume its controlled from a separate pot.

I've put a lot of effort in this piece, and some ideas that (i think) would separate this from the plenty-PT-delays that already exists.
you know the stuff: use for learning, improving, ideas, etc, credit where due
i hope you appreciate!

This sounds really interesting! :applause: :applause: :applause:

-What is the shortest possible delay time?
-Can the modulation sound more like the chorus/vibrato in a EHX Deluxe Memory Man?
If so, I´d suggest to call it the "Memory Stepson" or s.th. like that

Will you post a complete project file for this one? I think this is a circuit that many people have waited for a long time - a diy delay with really good sound, low noise and modulation. None of the other projects has all of that. I built the Echobase, the Magnus Modulus and the PT-80 - and ended up with a commercial digital multi fx and an analogue delay...

the tradeoff for the filtering seems to be some phase alterations, i guess that causes the reverby sound, which is cool though

What is the shortest possible delay time

the usual for the PT, i ddont know exactly, but very short.

Can the modulation sound more like the chorus/vibrato in a EHX Deluxe Memory Man?

on the right setting, you can push the modulation with the peaks from the playing attack, but it wont sound as steady as an LFO.
there is an ldr, and a transistor to drive it, so an LFO would be an easy addon

for the pcb, its not verified yet, i wouldnt like either to support a 40-page thread for begginers, no offense intended, simply this is not an easy build

Hi, cpm,

The samples sound amazing. I was wondering if you experienced the distortion issues some people are reporting with the Echobase.

Do you have a PCB that you are willing to share?

Thanks very much,

David

I've never bought an etched pcb before, but if someone would offer a good one for this project, I'd order it at once!

Taylor? Madbean?

The clip sounded really good. A whole lot of potential with with very ambitious circuit from what I can see.
I do dig the PT 2399 chip, there are so many cool things that you can do with this inexpensive IC.
Good luck on getting a finalized version of this.

Once that it has been made a first version, i find now a lot of things to redesign and improve.
I'm planning on doing two derivatives, the fancier one with modulation, and another with only the delay, to keep it simple for 3 knobs, keeping the voicing this one has..

Have you tried it with a bass??? i tried a the echo base i think it was called with the pt2399 but it really didn't like the bass on the low notes. It only seemed to respond nicely for a guitar. So my mate got it he likes it though. So i was curious if you had tried a bass on it????

Waiting eagerly for it!

Thanks again :)

I have the atmosphere delay too. I'm doing a video with the memory man DIY and the atmosphere, it will be ready in a bit.

Could be really interesting to make a third version with the modulation off the Deluxe Memory Man.

does anyone know about if it will work on bass frequency's rather than just guitar. There are bass players out there
