I much prefer to leave the plug in the guitar for convenience (and I'm sure I will often forget to unplug it).
If I were to mod it, I'd add an on/off switch. Or better yet, change the current toggle switch so that center is off (but I suppose that would require installing a switch with multiple contacts).

good point. and there might be a delay.
I set the VSC to cut bass and treble in the up position and boost mid in the down position. Effectively, It is a 3-position volume switch. I have Seymour Duncans and the first position cleans them up some and that is most useful to me for chording.
