is this ok to do with pnp transistors? Any drawbacks? Thanks.

If the pedal is using ICs (especially CMOS ones), it might be a problem...

Regarding to transistors, if you're building a fuzz face, try this: http://www.tonepad.com/getFile.asp?id=82, and don't bother with the ICs as there aren't any in it. :)

You'll see that there's a trick consisting of a jumper set to choose polarity... Maybe you should get inspuiration from that!
