Resistors: Can i just use 2w or 3w throughout?

Frequently asked question regarding resistors, potentiometers, types, requirements, ratings etc.

Neurotic Noobie Multi part question: I notice that apparently most people use 1/4 watt or 1/2 watt resistors for most pedals, can i use 2w or 3w if i want instead? Also, can i use a Ceramic or Wirewound resistor when the original pedal called for metal-film or some other material? While i am at it can i over-rate the voltage on the caps throughout the pedal? Is there any reason why i can't just use 100 volt caps? In other words, can i just go bigger and more expensive in every direction as long as i adhere to the proper resistance and capacitance values? I realize more expenisive does not necessarily mean better sound but that is why i am asking . . . please help?

Yeah, go for it if that's what you've got handy. Good luck cramming them into one of madbean's tight layouts, but if you're using perf or vero just spread them out a bit and use a larger enclosure if needed.
... multiple LFO waveforms (saw up, saw down, triangle, square); a more flexible envelope with attack/release controls as well as inverted envelope. I am afraid it will have more knobs than the TGP annual convention - frequencycentral

Bigger rated resistors are far more inconvinient than bigger rated caps. 2W resistors will be pretty big. It's uncommon to even see people using 1/2W resistors, and 1/8W aren't uncommon.

Most Ceramic Wirewound resistors are usually low value types, rarely going above 4k7 in value.... :)
