hello, I'm modding a joyo vintage overdrive for more bass response and was wondering if I could use a foil type cap that I had in my parts bin or if I should stay with mylar ones. thanks

The type you see there has been used in audio applications for years. That suggests it is OK for audio. If you replace it with another "better" (read: more expensive) type chances are good that possible audible changes do not come from the type but from the difference in capacitance dus to tolerance differences.

Bottom line; leave it as it is or alter the circuit to get your improved bass response. Just a change of capacitor type will not do that for you.

Thanks Dirk, I just wanted to be sure. I have it paralleled with 2 mylar's to increase the total value and it seems to sound pretty good. Much fuller now and less honky.
