When you guys are designing and building effects what do you prefer SM or trough hole components and why?
What kind of advantages or disadvantages do you see in each one of them.
For the last 8 years every design that I did (nature of my job ) I used Sm resistors, caps, ic's and inductors.
Just interested in your opinions.

I much prefer through hole stuff, it is bigger and more resistant to abuse.
A lot of the stuff i build gets taken apart and rebuilt as something else later on, and the through hole stuff is more durable for that kind of use. I also hate using a tiny soldering iron tip, so that is part of it too.
