p.s. Mr Modman, how about you post a link for those who are willing to donate to web/domain hosting or other forum needs?
p.p.s. sorry for necroposting
I'm so sorry, there was a payment glitch because of a switch of credit cards... Forgot to update people over here, although I did post it in the facebook group. That's always the place to go in case of downtime. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1088980 ... 1604614862

Necroposting is cool, make me reread what I wrote years ago :thumbsup

I really need to have the serversoftware updated and haven't had the time to look into this. I could spend the whole summer re-learning all that stuff, but thinking about having it done at the hosting company. It really would be a good idea to set up something to allow people to support freestompboxes.org.

What would be the best platform?
Gofundme? Patreon? others?
Patreon is fine, I guess.

But direct paypal transactions could be better, since, you know, no service fee...

I've just learned that paypal charges $10 monthly for adding recurring payments as a feature to your account. In addition to some other pretty questionable charges.

maybe patreon IS the way to go. You can't depend on people remembering every month they are supporting a cause with 1-2 dollars even if they do. There is just too much other shit going on in life.

Why does it have to be a monthly contribution and therefore raise problems with Paypal?
Would a one-time (annual) donation not achieve the same result ?

you're probably right, I was just thinking about a set-and-forget kinda thing. But maybe just a yearly reminder is sufficient.

I also don't know about the costs involved.

We were down again, for most of yesterday CET... serious issues at the host company. I hadn't expected us to be up by now, we may still face some downtime in the following days, the issues doesn't seem to have been resolved yet.
