The moderators have been essential in keeping the board up an running smoothly, but there is a lot more; db management, backups, software updates, attachment management, integrating other (social media), customizing the phpbb forum software, ...

If you have experience in this field and you want to help build out freestompboxes.org on the more technical side, please shoot me an email (the button is in my profile)

I have work experience of PHP4 - i.e. of an outmoded, and no longer adequately supported version, which was already perfectly adequate, but was spoiled by updates to PHP which weren't backwards compatible.

I still keep a site running for a friend (no link offered, sorry), but it's become a bit of a struggle - at times I've just had to plead with the hosting company to turn off "security" updates that keep breaking it.

I don't recommend people migrate old sites, because they're just playing catch-up, due to the upgrade policy, which keeps throwing out the old, for the sake of the new and shiny.

So, ahem, I'm not currently up to getting back into that. My advice can be sought, but may not be as useful as that of people who've kept up to date with it.

Any advice I may give is to be taken more as a basis for further research, than actually directly useful.

I'm always happy for people to ignore any advice I give on any subject, so long as they're not rude about it :block:
