Off Topic Spamming: no mercy

Postby modman » 10 Aug 2008, 11:23

cxc_20081 was banned for off-topic commercial spamming.

Just posting links to money generating advertisement website selling cheap gold or other crap will result in immediate banning of the account. I will not even go into discussion with people who just register to odd forums just to post links and get traffic.

Any post in a thread fires off a serious number of notification mails to member interested in the subject, so this will bother anyone around here. This is the second instance this week, still investigating further, but I'd thought I'd better take action now.

apologies for any inconvenience.

eryereo was banned for commercial off-topic spamming

I removed his message from the FOOTAR thread. Trying to sell cheap gold through a link in the signature. If any of these people would like to come back and talk stompboxes, they will just have to re-register.

llh11456 was banned for off topic commercial spamming
mickey0604 was banned for off topic commercial spamming - and all posts removed

All these people (bots?) post from a worldwide (temporarily assigned) IP, so there is no use banning the IPs.

Thanks to the moderators for moving stuff,
thanks to the members for notifying me when they see something dodgy.

So don't hesistate to report any spam postings - use the report button, send a pm or a mail. Just trying to keep a clean house. :horsey:

Have you been able to compare the IP addresses of the banned people to registered users? Just wondering if there are some spiteful members doing this.

Thanks for all you do modman!

It's mainly Chinese spambots that arrive here.... We're not sure why!

Like I said, no mercy. So if members do this, even with another member account, they may find their IP address banned and their information (email, ip, username) reporter as spammer here:

http://www.stopforumspam.com

But like I said 90% are chinese spambots who were attracted by the icons that accompanied those silly member ranks. The were taken from w o r l d o f w a r c r x f t, that's why those icons are deleted now. My mistake, but I learned... :thumbsup
