How do I wire a DC jack to my build?

Ok, you got your soldering iron and nothing is going to hold you back, but you have no clue where to start or what to build. There were others before you with the same questions... read them first.

I want to add a dc jack and I wondering how to do this so that when the jack is used, the battery is bypassed......
Im sorry if this is really noob stuff, I have never done it!
