The Goose, the Middleman, the Idolmaker and Gomer Pyle

General documentation, gut shot, schematic links, ongoing circuit tracing, deep thoughts ... all about boutique stompboxes.

Gomer would have you believe that I was cheaping out to make some coin on these amps right? Fact is, I commissioned him to build them for me so I could build them and give them as gifts to my Father, my Uncle, my good friend Steve and keep one for myself. I made zero dollars on these amps. I simply wanted to accomplish two things, #1 encourage Gomer and let him know I had full confidence in his abilities as well as financially support his desire to build #2 give each of my musical mentors a gift of a hand built tweed style amp... Plain and simple... As a side note, when I went to pay Gomer he requested $350.00 each for his builds and I told him that was not enough. I offered $550.00 which he said was too much so we settled on $450.00. I am a money hungry glory hog,,, right... Oh as a note, 3 of these rigs developed problems soon after I gave them to the owners. I got them back for Gomer to check out. He kept them for a month and deemed them A-OK.. They were not . Same problems were there. So un known to Gomer (because I & Goose1 did not want to hurt his feelings) I took the amps to Goose 1 and he went through them and found all the problems and fixed them. That has been 2 years ago and they have all operated properly since. Bear in mind, Gomer does not consider Goose1 Legit because he "might not" have the knowledge to design a circuit yada yada...

One last bit of explanation on this whole deal before I drift away and float back into the world of anonymity.

Bob... Wait... Come Back...

Bob, it occurs to me that you probably have your work cut out building cabinets, and that electronics is not something you've been drawn to, or had a passion for in your life...
Therefore, it's likely that the pedal came about as a result of wanting to make some $'s in the pedal industry.
There's nothing wrong with that. We all like to make money, and it's a Capitalist society...

But...
It's obvious that whatever anyone thinks of Clay's opinions and personality, he has made his choices based on his belief in what's right and wrong, rather than on potential profit.
I have to respect that sort of integrity, but I don't judge anyone on trying to make a profit either.

What I'd be interested to know from you is:-

1. Did this pedal come about as a result of you playing with a circuit and developing it until you realised it was worth marketing, or was the original intention to come up with something that could be sold ?

2. Do you think your pedal offers something unique in design to the pedal world, in a sea of TS clones, or is it just another TS with a few altered capacitor and resitor values ?

Thanks

They are nice, aren't they? I'd like to have one. I wonder which of these, if any, the Goose had to repair per the cabinet makers story?

These are not the amps that the Goose built. These were built by a good friend of mine in California. He and I work together a great deal on various projects. These are little modded 5F2 Princetons. Built to take a 6L6 or 6V6 power tube. These went to Japan to "The Famous Guitar Players" Friends and student.

Thanks for sharing, stick around and talk stomps! it is free, we could all learn something and be one step closer to proper pedal engineers.

Like you said, Happy Holidays, maybe you and your friend will find you can put this behind you and move on, afterall it is just pedals!! How can something we step on be so precious?

Indeed. I plan on sticking around observing and listening etc. I want to learn more and more and there is no better place than amongst a group of fellows who do that sort of thing.

I will let the waters calm around this whole ordeal. Hopefully I can contribute in some way eventually.

Cool, thanks for setting me straight on that. How many of these little beauties did you make?

I love amps with a nice stained finish.

Refreshing after years of seeing so much tolex and tweed

Clay, you crack me up. You are always the victim / hero in these stories. Glad to see you, analogguru and the rest uncovering the mojo from these evil money grubbing corporations like, uh...klon?? I don't know what drives you guys but take a look in the mirror. If you hate hype so much it can only come from the sour taste of your own deceptions.

What your missing is the true meaning of mojo. Mojo is not really magical or mystical, at least not in its literal meaning, it is our human ability to create motivation, healing, and joy with our mind. I can tell you like to feel superior, and believe most people are clueless, but the irony and hypocrisy is that it is more likely the other way around. Your skepticism and self loathing doesn't leave much room for you to have an open mind, or I'm guessing to truly love others.

Hi Bob - thanks for the nice bedtime story
A long post that told us absolutely nothing about your overdrive
If I openly shared it with you guys you might know every tweak that was done

But you did not share it did you Bob
I will kep it to myself

yes you are just another big teaser - why don't you just crawl on back to TGP - your fans are waiting there for you to sell your swirl painted tubescreamer clone. Nice sloppy story but this forum is here to discuss circuits and schematics etc., not to second guess which capacitors and resistors yor "friend" changed - Bye Bye Burty boy

We discuss circuits and schematics here?! I thought this was mudslinging, witchhunting and crucifixions.

Bob,

Nobody invited you in, we just allow you to address this issue here to hear both sides. In response to your long mails I already earlier asked "what about the pedals?" because as far as those are concerned you didn't comment on anything in Clay's post.

So far I couldn't find any BB Overdrive for sale anywhere....

No need for insults, either. Please.

lrgrbt wrote:Hello Baja man,

I simply answered the questions the individual asked me. If you read (and can comprehend) you will see that the questions asked were open general questions.

But you did not share it did you Bob

First off, I do not have to share anything with "you" because that is my choice. I generally take time to know people so I know who is who... You speak loudly as to who you are, so you have saved me a lot of trouble. Snipe on my friend

Your quite the "Bugger" aren't you? I had a "bloke" who was from NZ work for me for 10 years, He turned out to be a "wanker "as well. two for two from the little Island down under...

Again that reading and comprehension thing really is something you should work on. As I stated. I worked on the pedal for my own use. After the prodding of friends I decided to offer it to anyone who wants it. At no risk mind you, because if you do not like it you send it back for full refund.

I do not need validation by gaining your approval. Point well taken on the circuits and schematics. I am in your house. Next time I will answer broad questions via PM's.

Have a nice evening.
