Death by Audio - Apocalypse

i have apocalypse gut shots.. i'll give you a taste for now.. a quick explanation is the first function is just a twin t filter..second is the newer fuzz war circuit in the bottom right, third is the tl072 opamp, in between the 5 way rotary switch and the tone knob..the fourth is the octave clang circuit in the corner with the 741, transformer and Ge diodes in the upper corner..and then last one is called gain times 1000.. i have not traced down anything on this yet but i have schems for the fuzz war and octave clang..the input preamp is a 741 set up like it is in the octave clang.. i'll have more pics to post later..

most of the pics are large and somewhat fuzzy..i'll post them this weekend, maybe by then i'll have figured out the other two functions..

I split this into a new topic, as it is a different pedal (I think).

i think its a progression of a pedal design..the armageddon started an early fuzz war circuit (7 backwards transistors) mixed with a switchable filter section..as time when on he added more functions, the armageddon pedal Oliver (the DBA guy) uses for his band has the multiple fuzz circuit switch and the switchable filter sections.. if we can use these armageddon pics to figure out the two filter sections then putting that into an apocalypse would complete the package..

in the movie Fuzz, he said something about the fuzz war being based on his distortion unit..and the quest for an ultimate distortion.. this armageddon pedal is an early step in that quest..

i feel as though the apocalypse and armageddon are the same unit just at different stages of development.. we can see from the pics of this armageddon that it is a 7 transistor fuzz war.. the sub switch opens up more bass frequencies (bigger input & output capacitors).. we have seen in the fuzz war thread how that pedal has changed over the past few years going from a 7 transistor unit to a 4 transistor unit (did i post the partial schem i did on the newer fuzz war yet?).. the apocalypse is a stripped down (missing the second switchable filter section) version of the newer armageddon design.. the fuzz war circuit in the apocalypse is the newer 4 transisor version (actually it only uses 3 of the 4 stages..the output buffer is left out)..

pause the video at about 3 seconds in, its an up-close shot of Oliver's armageddon pedal, it can be seen in the video there are 6 positions on Oliver's pedal.. and the second filter.. what do each of the postions do? not sure but my guess is that its pretty similar to the apocalypse fuzz selection switching..

but on to the real issue, the circuit.. and more pics, which i will be posting soon..

did i post the partial schem i did on the newer fuzz war yet?
not yet!

I hate you.
I was gonna call my new fuzz Armageddon.

Now I can't :(

Oh well.

One question, close to the led there is a trans.. which model is it ?
Is it for supply or what ?

Thanks in advance.

Same as the Octave Clang. It's a 10K primary, 2K secondary. Mouser part #42TM002-RC or 42TL002-RC.

i have a schem.. and yes this is an updated, yet slightly stripped down ( no filter stomp w/ second filter, and fuzz circuit #6) version of an armageddon..

i wonder how pissed off the DBA guys would be if i were to post this schem??

If they sell a pedal the information inside is available to whoever opens it. Does it really matter if they get pissed off? I would vote share.

37 resistors
27 caps
3 ICs
1 Transformer
5 transistors
4 Ge Diodes
3 pots
1 rot_switch
1 stomp
1 LED

this is in no way a beginners circuit to build.. i have about 8 pages of schems from this pedal.. this will not fit well on vero-board..

I'm interested to see the schematic for this. Still have it?

Someone has the schematic? I am very interested in this great pedal.
Please :(

this, many times over. i don't know if i'll have the ability or the patience to build a clone, but i'd like to know what is going on in there. just to know and understand a bit more about what is required to make a great noise.

i would also be extremely surprised to discover that oliver has never used this site at some point for his own design research.

as the great steve zissou would say, we're not stealing anything, it's a scientific community.

It looks like this thread has been bumped several times over the last few years but the schematic never made it into any of the replies. Does anyone have it?

Who cares? It's your drawing and your copyright.

Guys, this isn't helping. Buy, borrow or steal the pedal and trace it yourself.
He's really only a glass hero ;-)

Done and tested, I'd say verified.
That's my take on the DBA Apocalypse, reversed from an original a friend owns.

Hope it helps.
Enjoy.
