The layout is verified, and wait for it .......... it sounds like a Timmy.

is it really ? it does 3V6 of bias.

That's maybe why many people say that this pedal doesn't sound like a Timmy . The rc filter used as tone control cuts at max almost exactly the same point that the timmy does. 306Hz for timmy, 282Hz for the Jan Ray.

it's really funny to see how so many people have none imagination and just copy other's work. Priceless

looking at the schema there is no discussion about the fact that the jan ray is a timmy copy.
But a friend that owns both the timmy and the jan ray, is telling me that they are not sounding in similar fashion.
I don't know if the friend is deaf or drunk, or if that few differences, could be so heavy soundwise.
If somebody out there that owns the originals could be so kind to tell us his point of view, It would be appreciated.
Thanks
Paolo

There are changes in curicuit (few different cap values, bias resistors, treble pot value, different IC, different clipping section) so it can sound diffrently a bit, but not day/night difference.
But this is copy of Timmy in 95%, just more expensive.

The Jan Ray sounds like it has a nice mid honk that makes guitar noodlers crazy :applause:

I've owned a Timmy in the past and cloned it. There's a clip comparing the clone and the Jan Ray in the TGP thread.

I find it hard to understand why anyone would use a 4 layer board to hide the traces when they have just copied someone elses pedal, do they really think it is difficult to RE such a simple circuit by hiding the traces in an inside layer ?

Thanks for the schematic.
It's fairly straight forward, if you want to start it , press start. You can work out the rest of the controls for yourself !

No silicon heaven ? preposterous ! Where would all the calculators go ?

Cleaned up the trace routing pic a bit. Yellow is V+, red is Vbias, white pads signify connection to the ground plane. Orange is input, blue is output. Green and pink traces are signal traces.

He is a funny guy. Sutherland also has fine taste in gear.
Shame I can't post there anymore since I got banned.
Anyways, this is huge over there. Lots of people justifiably shitted off since their fancy Jan Ray ain't nothing but a Timmy with an LM1458 chip.
Which is my fave in the Tim and always has been.

Did up a single sided layout with board mounted pots, jacks and switch. Enjoy.

Just a note about that layout, it's a bit tricky to get right with the toner transfer method. I didn't find it terribly difficult with the photo transfer method, but it took a few tries to get it right with toner transfer, where I can normally get it right without much hassle. Not an easy etch for the beginner. Might redo one without the board mounted jacks/switch later.

Not yet. Waiting on Mammoth so I can restock my bench. Etched and looked over though.

Hi,

has anyone the chance to take a closer at the Vemuram Rage e ?
Following their argumentation that after 3 years of hard R&D they accidentally come up with something similar to the Timmy circuit I could imagine that after another three years of R&D they might invent another box of rock ... at least this was my initial thought after reading the description to their Rage e pedal.

http://www.vemuram.com/rage-top.html

Any thoughts?

I see an op amp on the board in a gut shot. My guess was the Rage e/Karen are Crunch Box variants.
