It's much more likely to be a Ross-alike with a charge pump.

Nope. It's a Dynacomp using a 13600 / 13700 like the Yamaha version of the circuit. The other side of the 13600 is used as a fixed-gain bypass amplifier in the Yamaha.

Hi everyone!

well... i'm attempting to trace this pedal.

Its pretty much like the BYOC 5 knob Comp although i've noticed a few things to discuss:

1.- 1uF "NP" (looks like electrolytic), 10uF"NP" and 4.7uF"NP" are used in positions where electrolytics caps were used originally in the dynacomp. can we just use polarized caps like in the Dyna?

2.- only half of the LM13700 is used, the other half is not connected.

3.- The blend circuit portion is a little bit tweaked; specially the last stage uses a fairchild 2n5484 (Image posted). I've read about using a 2n5457 as a replacement but:
Walrus Audio Deep Six Compressor schematic
Walrus Audio Deep Six Compressor schematic

3.a) why do they used this design instead the proposed by BYOC?
3.b) how do the 2n5457 will work?... we can just replace it or the circuit needs to be tweaked! (of course after checking the 2n547 pinout).
3.c) Do you suggest maintain this JFET or go back to the design proposed by BYOC?

That's it... I'll keep on working!

Please, excuse my bad english... Best regards from Chile!

You can substitute the FET - pretty much any n-type will work in that circuit.

Your other question - why they did the blend like that - is because they can! It'll work OK and will be quiet because there's no DC differential on the pot.

Here's a schematic based on the BYOC schem with the changes noted by lukatosh. Working on a PCB

Alrighty, here's the perf/pcb layout. I originally wanted on-board pots (and you could still board-mount 2 of them), but trying to keep it 1590B-friendly squashed those dreams. haha Guess there's a reason most modern circuit boards are multi-layer  I drew the board to use 1µ tantalum caps to save space and for lower noise, fyi.

Hmm. Schematic look like the dod 280 that I built a while ago, except using a ota instead of an optocoupler, and mixing the dry and wet signals.

On the mixng part, does anyone have clips of that? Cause I've never heard a compressor mixed with dry, just straight wet. [smilie=a_yumdumdoodledum.gif]

storyboardist...is the one that using BA6110 an actual Deep6? I open up one last night, it has JRC13700 instead.

Sorry, just now saw this. The BA6110 is left over the BYOC 5-Knob Comp. Guess I forgot to swap it out for the 13700. Fix that and working on redoing the layout. The layout I posted before has been verified, though it's been pointed out to me that the VrefA has a minor error (56k to ground should be 27k). Here's the updated schematic and I'll be working on a new layout with the correct 13700 chip.

Don't know how i missed this before, but there isn't a tone control on the Deep Six that there is on the BYOC. I would assume it follows the original Ross Comp schematic in that area. It also runs off 18v, so I've updated the schematic to reflect that as well. I would assume the charge pump is a typical 1054-style, but I didn't include that.

New layout. A bit bigger than the old one but the pots can be board mounted and there are fewer jumpers.
