It almost looks like the resistors have stripes, but the pics arent clear enough yet to tell.

otherwise most would have a number on them for the value if not..well..we can deduce some things about tubes and phase circuits. 8)

Yep, the resistors are round and have striped markings to indicate their value like through hole resistors.. if they had numbers it would be easy..

could you check them vith ohm meter?......just those around tubes..........
I think that LFO cloning is too much to do(for me it is  ).....

thanks

I can, but it's not always an accurate way to check resistors..

they'd have to come out of the circuit. and really use an analog meter, but anyhoo..some good colord piccies, maybe some slight enhancement in photoshit might help...

Oh deary me..I swore..

If I really need resistors identified by colour, I get my son to do it.. he'll be over on Friday, so we'll do what we can with better photos, etc until then.
I'm sure with magnification he'll be able to identify them from the markings..
Maybe we can start on the schematic and add values as we get them..

There are a lot of un-marked smd caps however, which will be harder to solve.

Obvisouly we have a digital LFO in here ... a bit like this : http://www.beavisaudio.com/projects/DSWF/
It's probably intended to replicate the waveform of a vintage unit (discussed here), but with better stability. But it could do any waveform ! The ICSP (in-circuit software programming) and serial ports are clearly labelled for us to poke into : Let's hack this thing !
:horsey:
http://www.microchip.com/wwwproducts/De ... e=en010276
I suspect the µC to deal also with the footswitch & relay, and maybe as an oscillator for the hi-voltage SMPS.
Another remarkable thing is the more-or-less parabol-shaped mirror redirecting the light from the (neon ?) bulb into the LDRs. Did you notice the reworked wire and resistor next to the bulb ?

Eventually quite a nice mix of traditional and modern technology, i dig that ! [smilie=seeker.gif] + [smilie=borgsmile.gif] = 8)

Unfortunately i won't be able to help a lot until next week (i've got a birthday-present-stompbox to build and i don't have much time left), but in the meantime here is a quick'n'dirty composite image to help in tracing.

So should we stick with the pico for an lofo or should we try something else?

So, Boris got his pics!! :)

NCO = Numerically Controlled Oscillator

With a PIC and a D-2-A converter, log and anti-log LFO waveforms are possible.

If it uses LDRs for the phase controll, just a stable LFO is all U need.

It's the caps and R's in the signal path that really determines the vibe sound.

interesting, but a microcontroller would put out a square wave..so wouldn't you still ned an r/c network for smoothing out to a sinewave?

Might be a PWM output, which would need some simple RC smoothing - the required waveform frequency is certainly easily low enough for this to work. I guess, as JiM suggested, this is a good way to produce a very stable arbitrary waveform. Bit suprising to see a PIC with this many pins though - would have thought a little 8 pin device would be plenty. Might have something to do with the PSU too? ([edit]; also, like JiM already suggested... maybe I should read more carefully) Should be pretty clear once the circuit is traced.

....hm.....if that does not work....can we measure voltages on them? ....that could give us something....... :block:

P.S.

it would be great if someone crack that LFO..... :thumbsup

Things seem to have gone a bit quiet on the Tube Vibe guys.. where's all those keen tracers ?
If this one is to go in the "too hard" basket for now.. please let me know so i can put it back together..
Meanwhile here's the unmarked (on top) box caps and ICs..

Sorry it's small on photobucket.. let me know if you can't read anything.

If someone is tracing this.. please keep us up to date with progress reports or maybe a partial schematic..
Thanks

now I am short with time.......
how about those resistor codes..?...did your son look at them vith magnifier?...if that is not going to happen soon, close it,and we are going to work with this photos......

And Greg.....thanks a lot for doing all this!

So far I have this...........traces ..soon....it looks very similar to schem on their site, only with VOL pot on the output......and I do not know those resistors .........

I am going to do audio part , but need help with PIC-LFO-POWER-statusLED parts :hmmm:

feel free to HELP
