I discovered this recently while search for any information regarding said topic. Looks very 'PlexTone'-ish in terms of the schematic; Quad op-amp (LM347) running off a +/- 9 volt dual power supply; Hi-Low switch allows you to swap between Red LEDs or BAT46s in terms of clipping diodes.
