TLC2272 with the MA856 - even more clarity - this has turned this pedal from a good one to a great one!
Great that it became even beter to you.
Please, what does "more clarity" mean to you in an overdrive like this?

Less muddy sounding clearer note definition.

Which had the most impact on the sound: The new opamp or the new diodes?

Both contribute to the sound but maybe the ic impacts more? Ma856 have forward voltage of .7v on my voltmeter. In4148's .6v on my voltmeter for comparison.

Thanks for the replies.
Perhaps increasing the forward voltage drop even more by putting Ge diodes or Schottky diodes in series with the others, would improve it even better if you're looking for a very mild/gentle distorted signal?

Thanks Madbean for your quick reply.
Just going thro the second 1 yet again,i am using schematic from page 4,for values and the vero that goes with it,the wiring is backwards on the vero layout, gain, volume, tone, 3 should be 1 etc,

After a very long time, I'm finally settled enough to build this one... thanks to Rotazilla for the diodes last year! Only problem is I can't find Madbean's pcb layout...maybe my memory is shot?

'Boost' is the presence boost as featured in the KoT. It can be used as an internal trimmer, or externally with a pot. LED+ goes to the anode (+) of the LED. The minus side goes to your switch, as normal.

Is this the final layout for Analogman's King of Tone? Any build reports? Is the PCB transfer layout already made 1 is to 1 ratio?

There are numerous build reports and comments in the thread. please search.

to find if the layout is scaled properly, print it and place an 8 pin dip socket over the holes the opamp should go in, if it lines up, cool, if not, adjust as necessary until it does.

and just for clarity's sake, you should know that this particular layout is half of the king of tone, as the king of tone actually has two of these cascaded. we just didn't see the point.

IIRC, the image is 200 DPI, so if you print at that resolution it will come out fine. I have a newer layout for it, but really, this one is fine. The only difference between the two is that all the pads for the pots are lined up on the top, and it doesn't require any jumpers. There's no difference, circuit-wise.
