The Screw Driver's not Muff, and I don't think the Top Fuel is either.
i never said they're ALL muff based. regardless, there's enough variation even in the muff based pedals to warrant multiples.

So the screwdriver isnt muff based then? If not I might like to check one out. I've played a mayo - great build and thought it was a really nice take on the muff, but certainly don't need any more big muffs.

I never said you did Buddy... :)
I was just pointing out something as a follow on to your post.

The Screw Driver is a great Overdrive.
It's a Mosfet Treble Booster stage in front of a very modified Fuzz Face circuit - modified enough to not be a Fuzz any more really, but it retains the touch sensitivity and clean up of the Fuzz Face.

Hi! first post here, NICE FORUM, congratulations on it from spain.

The schematic link doesn't work, can anybody post a good one or something?
I got a triangle muff clone and would like to mod it to mayo specs.

I hope the maker of the skreddy mayo doesn't mind me posting this, but i made a vero layout using the schematic in the first post of this thread.
Thought maybe some of you might like to use it to build a mayo (or any muff variation).
It is verified and working and sounds great!
I have added a polarity protection diode, a pull down resistor, an anti rfi cap and a LED resistor.

Image

and the BOM:
board = 19 strips x 19 holes
17 cuts
5 bridges
4 transistor sockets

Capacitors C10, C12, C11 470pF 3
Capacitors C2, C3, C1, C4 100nF 4
Capacitors C6, C5, C7, C13 220nF 4
Capacitors C8 10nF 1
Capacitors C9 4.7nF 1
Capacitors CX 47pF 1
Capacitors Ca 100uF 1
Capacitors Crfi 100pF 1

Diodes D1, D2, D3, D4 1n914 4
Diodes Da 1N4001 1

Resistors R1 820R 1
Resistors R13, R11 18k 2
Resistors R16, R22, R10 120R 3
Resistors R17, R9, R15 470k 3
Resistors R18 10k 1
Resistors R20 56k 1
Resistors R3, R14, R21 100k 3
Resistors R5, R8, R2 33k 3
Resistors R6, R19, R12 8k2 3
Resistors R7 390k 1
Resistors RLED 1k 1
Resistors RX, R4 2k7 2
Resistors Ra 1M5 1

4 NPN transistors

Hope you like it. Tell me how it goes if you use the layout...
For any or most other big muff variations the collector resistor arrangement on Q4 is different which means you'll have to change the layout a tiny bit!
But this arrangement sounds killer!

Cheers nokaster - I'll have to add this to my growing "to build"... I still havn't got a decent muff clone on the go.

this one is better than decent!
check the schematic in the first post, there are a lot of notes on it that are usefull to make an exact replica of the mayo.

i used carbon film resistors, ceramic caps, multilayer ceramic caps and BC549's

maybe i'll build another one with carbon comps, metal film caps in the right places etc...

i'm just glad the layout i worked so hard on is working! ;-)
and i hope many people will use it!

In the following thread you stated ...
i can't get a decent volume out of it. it never gets to unity...
and ....
so here is the layout and the BOM.
maybe some big muff lover(s) are willing to take a look at it and can tell me where I went wrong...?

Same layout. You mentioned finding a solder bridge...is the layout "working" now ?

Does anyone have gut shots?
Mayo's are sold at ridiculous prices on evil bay and elsewhere..

I'm not sure why you'd need a gut shot. The schematic in post #1 is accurate and details the correct parts types. Most important of which is the 2N5133 transistors, unfortunately. I say unfortunately because I don't know of a good source for these in good gain ranges with decent noise levels; and as a result, I've discontinued the product.

The ebay prices are for used Mayos. You can't make a used Mayo, so you can't benefit from those prices, gut shot or no gut shot. And besides; it's just a Big Muff clone. Lots of layouts and schematics and mods/tips are available to build your own.

:secret: The Mayo's "scoop/flat" mids switch just switches an extra .0047uf cap in parallel with the other one on the highpass side of the tone stack.

I have a Mayo and have had most of all of Marc's other pedals and they do indeed rock and imho Marc deserves the sales. I'm interested in this because I'm cloning my Rams Head as I dont like taking it to gigs and there's a couple nice bits here to give me pointers for a few ideas to incorporate.

Thanks for the freebie tip!

oh okay, thanks.
I always think it's good idea to go back to the photos to confirm, as there isn't a system (yet) to make sure errors are noted once we are off this forum.

That's true; and fwiw, I have not and will not bother to check the layout that is posted in this thread.

i really don't want you to have a problem with the layout being posted!!!
but with the schematic at hand in the first post, i'm sure you won't mind a layout either...
for a good reason the pedal is (temporarily) discontinued from your sales, so we have to find a way to build our own... right? 8)

Like I said; it is a Big Muff clone. Any Big Muff layout (of which many exist) would suffice.
