Hi,
I used vero board, no PCB. But I guess any Big Muff PCB is suitable, there is no need at all for a specially made PCB to make a Skreddy work-alike. I build to Tone controll related components point2point on the tone-pot and switch.
From all the Big Muffs I made..The Pink Flesh work-alike, with added scoop-switch is now my fabsolute favorite pedal..
PS...
I don't understand that people will go though the trouble desibning and makeing PCBs for such simple circuits. besides, veroboards are much more convient to make modifications...

I do have one problem though...
When I connect the Pink Flesh work-alike to my Boss RV-3 (delay& reverb), I lose lots of treble?
Does anybody else have this problem?
Is it related to the Pink Flesh, or more related to the Boss RV-3?
chrzz,
Thijs

my dc-protection diode scheme is not the standard 1N4001 to ground (it's either a schottky or a germanium in-line)
Marc - what schottky do you suggest?

Hey guys,
I know these HFEs are low but what order for Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4?
The HFEs are 104, 99, 94
Also, is it usually highest for Q1, best matched for Q2 & Q3, lowest for Q4?

Yeah; those are probably way too low to build a workable Big Muff clone.

Thanks Marc, I thought so.
I am going to try some 2N5088s.
Should I still do highest for Q1, best matched for Q2 & Q3, lowest for Q4 or something else?

If I use BC239s what would be the best HFEs to use?

I just bought a bunch of BC549 and BC239.
Which do you guys recommend for the mayonnaise and what would be good HFEs?

I really have no idea.. it's all trial and error. You can use sockets, and swap the transistor and listen for the change in sound.. I would be very interested to hear your results!

Has the nokaster layout proven true to the original Mayo sound?

it's a working big muff layout.
the mayo sound depends on the components and their values you use, especially the transistors...
socketing some (or a lot) of components will give you the ability to tune it to your taste.
i liked the sound of the one i build better than any other big muff i played to this date.

So has anyone made the mayo with 2N5088s or BC239s and what did you think?

I like 5088's they sound very good - I would recomend going to a higher gain for Q1 I liked the 600hfe way better than the 400 hfe - the pedal started to sing more - I also liked 800hfe but I'm not sure I heard much difference - 400 - 800 hfe made a little bit of dif in Q2 and Q3 but seemed to affect the brigtness of the pedal more than anything.(800hfe was darker - probably type of tranny here again) Q4 makes an even bigger difference in tone but it didnt seem to be the gain as much as the type of tranny here. ex 2 400hfe trannys of different make sounded very different here - metal can BC109 vs: 5133

Thanks.
I just made one with the BC239s and I like it. Very high gain. Even with the gain really low it has a good amount of fuzz to it.
I would still like to know if there is a huge difference between the 2N5088s and the BC239s though.

I am loving my mayo a lot. I like how it is based on the Violet Ram's Head with some slight differences.
Sounds great.

i never tried 2N5088, because i don't find those here in europe, but i tried the BC550 instead. well the BC239 have the same gain as BC550 but the sound is a little more focused and somewhat slightier bright.
and since i tried 'em they are THE Transistor to use in BMs

Did you use BC550B or BC550C?

It's just a preference. You don't have to understand.
