This one above looks like a Eddystone 27134PSLA, which is quiet the same size as a Hammond 1590B, but half the price here in Europe. They are little different though - less sharp at the edges and less round at the transitions to the top. I realy like them!:)Crumbchildz wrote:What size enclosures are folks using?

Thanks very much, my friend! I could decide if it was a 125 style or 1590B, it's still early over here.

Haha, no problem!:) But I think I was wrong - though it does look like a Eddystone at the top- the lid doesn't. So I think it is one of those: http://www.musikding.de/product_info.ph ... Typ-B.html But I think this is little bit information than you needed - or wanted. Sorry, couldn't resist! German Gründlichkeit! Hahahah

though I'm not him he's a good friend of mine - so I'm so rude to answer for him
It's just a inkjet waterslide decal on a polished Eddystone enclosure protected with some several clearcoats.

Hi guys,
I just built the SFT from madbean's revised layout but I'm getting no signal past the drain of Q1. I've tried replacing Q1 but the problem still persists. I've gone over the board with a magnifying glass and I can't see any solder bridges. I used 1N4004 instead of 1N4001 (is this the problem?) for D2 but every other component is as per the project file.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
jbgron

How close does this SFT clone get to the original sound & dynamics?
Since i´m a bloody beginner i can´t "read" the circuit diagram and
can´t judge if all including parts make a 1:1 copy of the original
(refering to madbeans great layout).
Thx for input.

Connect lug 2 on volume pot to out connection on your switch. Top right lug as in your drawing.

Read the notes on the layout. 1 goes to ground.

I built this one using mike's layout.
mine doesn't seem to have any hair/dirt. It's a great sounding booster as it is right now.
the bass control only works up to about 1:00 after that no sound comes out.
the gain knob is useless until about 3:30.

All I can tell you is to persevere with fault finding on Mike's layout, because it does work, and work very nicely indeed. I've just completed one of these as my first ever pedal build, and my first serious soldering project since school. I made an obscene amount of mistakes doing this
My major mistakes were:
1, Assuming that the gate, source and drain on my 2N5457's were the same way round as on the drawing (source and drain had to be crossed over)
2, Missing out 7 of the 22 trace cuts
3, General sloppy soldering, dry joints and bridges etc.
What helped me most was plugging my Zoom B1 into the input, using the built in drum machine so I would have a constant source of noise. The pedal output was connected to my least valuable amp (expect some very harsh pops and bangs!) Then I used a length of wire with both ends stripped, wedged one end onto the pedal output jack, and just poked the other end into various places around the circuit to see how far the signal was getting.
From memory, when I had similar problems with the bass and treble pots rolling all the volume off at one end or other of their travel, it was solder bridges where the wires from the pots join the board.
I apologise if I'm stating obvious things to you here, but I have no idea what your level of experience is
Edit: Also, have the actual schematic in front of you as well as Mike's Vero layout, particularly when poking around with your bit of wire.

oh, I wasn't questioning the vero layout at all...more just confused on what I did wrong. Sorry for the confusion. I've got a few gigs this week and one is going to be covering a lot of kinks, the who, etc... so I was hoping to get this thing up and running prior to rehearsal tuesday.
i'm going to check the voltages on the fets and report back. Thanks for the help.

sorry for the noob troubleshooting posts, got if figured out (bad solder on a jumper). hopefully a mod can delete the last few posts.
great project!!!
i'm going to give it a whirl live monday and hopefully it'll be used for a british invasion band on saturday night. I think it sounds much better so far than my TS style OD for Kinks, Small Faces, Beatles etc...

Just finished and tried out this puppy with guitar and bass. God damn. That's a hell of a design. I'm really impressed with how controllable the top end is. Very excited to hear this loud at practice. I'll grab a camera from work to post some shots. Thank you catalinbread for an amazing circuit, thank you shortscalemike for the layout !

just about to start building one of these, I assume it can be run at 18V like the original?
