Janglebox - what´s inside ?

Postby doc_holiday » 27 Oct 2007, 11:09

I just played one and it sounds great, I think it´s a kind of compressor/treblebooster combination, anyone knows what´s inside or maybe have a circuit drawing ?

A Janglebox is a compressor that is very popular with owners of Rickenbackers. They help provide that "jangly" type sound of the Byrds. There is in fact some issue between Rickenbacker and the makers of the Janglebox in that Rickenbacker has some issue as to whether any of the janglebox circuitry was copied from the onboard compressor on the Roger McGuinn sig Rick 370.

More specifically, the designers hoped to emulate the sound of the onboard compressor found in the Rickenbacker 370/12 McGuinn Limited Edition 12-string.

you can read, that the schematic of the 370/12 has been around. At the moment it has been removed from the rickenbaker service page:

If someone downloaded it already.....

How about some side elevation shots or component values
Not very easy to read the resistor color codes when they are stood on end like that - lots of shitty tantalums too

This is the circuit of the onboard rick compressor.

They are blowing smoke about the circuit - it's a slightly modified MXR Dynacomp, diddled just enough to fit inside the guitar.

I guess it's as well for my legal expenses that I didn't post the board setup from my pictures. Even the smallest lawsuit costs you about $10k just to hire the attorneys to protect you in the USA. It costs much more if you ever go to court (probably around $100K), then even more if you lose. Those are your self defense costs, irrespective of win or lose.

It's a good club to break over small heads. And that's why the IP laws are serious business in the USA. Normal people can't afford even a frivilous, no-basis lawsuit.

I found the factory schematic from the Ric 370/12 with the E1 option which I believe is what we're talking about it. Since I'm in no position to be sued in the slightest bit, email me if you want it. Someone else can redraw it and post it.
