Just buy them , Mr Blencowe deserves it ! His books are the best I've ever read for people who want lots of practical info and not just a load of mathematical equations.
Much better than O'Connor's stuff and moderately priced.

Buy it, his books are worth it. I've got the KOC books too, but it's the Merlin Blencowe ones I refer to all the time. Here you go:

:horsey:

I downloaded the .Rar file and unzipped it using 7zip, and the file seems to be a .djvu type, what do I need to open it with?.....

It's okay, I just did a bit of googling and found what I needed..... :thumbsup

Yep, this is a great book so I'll be buying myself a hardcopy version soon...... :thumbsup

i have the first edition of the tube preamps one and it's great. the second edition has a few things more about switching systems and a few general tips.
these are very valuable books. i suggest to buy a copy. reading on paper is much better, and Merlin deserves it. my amps are a lot better with his advices

That's weird, I thought the books were print-on-demand?

[ ... checks lulu.com and valvewizard sites ... ]

Hm, it seems you're right! On Merlin's site it says "I'm sorry to say this book has been removed from print."
Why would it be 'removed from' instead of 'out of' ? Strrrrange.

[edit] ah I see: "15 November 2013: I've been getting a lot of mail about my power supplies book. I'm sorry to say it has been removed from print because I don't like it. It contains too many mistakes and typos, and it doesn't match the style of my preamps book."

The djvu format is a new one on me, hence the reason why it threw me for a second, oh well at least I learnt something new in the process.......

In any case, I think they are excellent books. And especially for the DIY'er, they are terribly valuable because they are easily understood and practical - yet, they remain highly scientific.

If you love tubes, do yourself a favor and buy them. :thumbsup

Though I am new here I have to agree with those who say to buy Merlin's books. They are worth it. I have both the preamp and the power amp book and they are the best. He makes his living with his books and his website is free and incredibly valuable.

Yeah, Here is another +1 for buying. I have them both and I really like them. Everytime I think "wait, how did that work again?" the book seems to pick it up and explain it again. Apart from the information in them, I can read his books front to back and understand it all in one go, that is a talent. :applause:
