I just entered the boutique boxes section... Ebay ads at the top AND bottom of the page?
I'll happily buy another FSB shirt if that can make the ads go away (at least for members)

This is actually some money coming in, and at least it's electronics related (no viagra, no green card lottery, no poker games, ...). I don't really mind these, they don't keep me away from the threads, though I click for curiosity sometimes...

But feel free to buy as many FSB t-shirts as you need!

The cost to host the amount of files we have the the volume (bandwidth) we get is not cheap. The ads you see are helping pay the bill so that everyone can continue to enjoy the materials here totally for free.

Is it a click on them to receive more revenue type thing? Should we be clicking on them to give FSB more funds or is it just add space in general.

Yep. Please don't over-click.

Click one or two every week or so, and that will be just fine. :)

It's ebay.com and ebay.co.uk - this is the drag. It should only display ads on your local ebay, but alas that's not yet possible.

I should have looked into this earlier, it's a fair request I think. Furthermore, I believe you could even configure your web browser not to load the ads. For people who contributed to the Tracer's Fund or bought a t-shirt maybe I should grant this automatically,

arph, I will use you as a guninea pig while setting up some group and stuff if that's ok with you.
Will be back

I believe the boxes are still there, but the ads should be gone. In fact, every user can manage membership of the 'ad haters' group by themselves through the user control panel. I will have to clear the forum cache regularly to have these changes take effect it seems.

The reason I set up a group of ad haters and made it visible, is to attract some interest in user group management. Will remove the sissy colour later. I don't have any future vision for the forum than that it would grow and become more effective in doing wat the user community wants. This is a lot of different things, a multitude of different aspects of stompboxing and the big advantage of the online world, is that there are no space and time limits: information is accessible anywhere anytime. So it really is possible to set up different niches on a website and make it work for different groups of people. Maybe I should make it more clearer and rename the Stompbox Café to Our own little TGP?

Anyway, it might well be that ad income will now fall drastically, but I don't believe so. 90% of the member will not notice, read this or bother to change the settings. Those who really care will...

Do let me know if some ad still do appear for you arph

Maybe I could also make a group 'wears a FSB t-shirt' ... :thumbsup

I'm not going to join the group, but the ads don't even show up for me. I'm using the AdBlock addon for Firefox so I only see them if I use the "wrong" browser.

Bump.

There now is a user group called 'ad free' which you can join yourself. Just access the User Control Panel (top right) and click on Group Management. There you will be able to join this group, which suppresses all the ads on freestompboxes.org.

don't tell me it isn't free (even of ads) although only for the smart ones!

Sometimes we can have it both ways... this is great.

I removed all ads from the forum. We used to have google ad and later ebay ads, which brought some meagre cents in, but on yearly basis made a good contribution towards paying the server bills. We use to be on very cheap (but very good apart from their DCMA oversensitivity) US hosted servers. Ebay ads used to bring in something as well, but this has radically plummeted since ebay kept changing the rules. Situation was until recently: if you click an ad on FSB and proceed do a winning bid or a BIN, we received a bit under 1% of the sales value. Last year there was one day we made $24, but that was about the only time the daily income was >$1.

We used to have a cafepress site too, still do, but I strongly discourage anyone to buy there. I will have to charge $25 a t shirt and only make $5, while cafepress takes $20. Its a trap, don't fall for it. Still I might have some t shirts done, and send them out over Europe, if there is any interest.

If you do want to support freestompboxes, think about us next time you paypal that money for those pcb of the overpriced fx that always wanted but could never afford but are now soldering yourself and that were, still, traced at FSB. tracersfundATfreestompboxesDOTorg

thanks for reading this far.
